Obviously the buck stops with him but this is the same with all leaders. They deal with lobbyists, advisors etc all the time.Why would people who encouraged the president be responsible and not the president who made the decisions? Your logic is backwards.
There are quite a few politicians in America that if I threw their name out there and asked you to tell me off the top of your head what great policies or Bills they have promoted that helped Americans for which you would be stymied.
These are the same people who work hard behind the scenes to get America involved in every useless fight. If you are going to go all out against a nation as large as Iran with two Big Brothers in China and Russia (China continued to arm and feed them even during the blockade), you had better be fully prepared and near 100% assured of the outcome.
Israels airforce alone could probably have decimated most of Irans infrastructure, but to take over the nation and install democracy? That requires SOMEONE, be it the locals or what have you, on the ground to take over the Iranian military.
I look forward to the book being written about this event in 10 years time.
