A virus isn't like poison gas where you need protection or it can kill you immediately. I think it's something that causes your body to hurt itself by spreading through it and affecting vital organs. Thus, the idea of the mask is to prevent its spread to others if you have it. To treat it, I think it's the same idea of preventing its spread throughout your body with antibiotics.

There is no known treatment for viruses in general, and covid-19 can not survive in the blood do can not get to any organs except those with air passages like sinuses or the lungs.
Antibiotics do nothing to viruses, but the immune system produces antibodies that do wipe it out within 12 days.
