it is totally unforgiven about and unforgettable that a man of genius who was not afraid to practice his arts...was killed....

Anger against Van Gogh reached its pinnacle on August 29, 2004 with the airing of the television film Submission on Dutch television, which was the creation of Van Gogh and controversial Dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali. The film depicted four partially nude women in long, dark transparent veils, who had texts from the Koran written in calligraphy on their bare skin. Some of the women appeared to have reddened whip marks on their backs and legs, on which the texts were written that described the physical punishments, sanctioned by the Koran for disobedient women. Not surprisingly, the highly controversial 10-minute film sparked outrage from the Muslim community.

a genius lost to the world....because of the intolerance of one people, one religion?

what is with that? only the worst tyrants purge the arts.....only the worst are afraid of ideas

The passion that we feel for Islam is like nothing else. Those among us with little self-control are likely to let their emotions get the best of them and act stupidly. I disagree that the man was an artist or a genius; he was a worthless piece of garbage (as is Hirsi Ali), but that shouldn't carry a death sentence.

Theo van Gogh was an outspoken critic of many things. The establisment and religion in particular. It wasn't just Islam he was critical of. He upset Christians and Jews as well. Significantly though, it was only the followers of Islam who reacted with violence and murder...as usual. And this murder was particularly barbaric. Not only did his muslim murderer shoot him eight times but as van Gogh lay dead, his attacker then cut Van Gogh's throat, nearly decapitating him, and then stabbed him many times in the chest. Two knives were left implanted in his torso, one attaching a five-page note to his body.

This was yet another example that demonstrates the lie that Islam is a religion of tolerance.
