Hell, this is hardly new. We went through almost the entire Obama administration with no budgets. And the military showed it, as training was often put off for years as every branch took a "spend as little as possible - because they might yank it all away at any time" mindset. Hell, for 2 years we did not even get any "field time". We literally drove our cars out to where we set up our tents, and went home each night. Saved the unit a lot of money on food and fuel, but we had to spend more to drive all the way out and back each day.

But this will never change. So long as you have those that do not understand "Guns Vs. Butter" economics. Because no matter what, you never really "save" money when you take it from the military. All you do is shovel off the future maintenance needs for a few years or so. Then it must be made up in spades and actually costs more to bring up all of the equipment left to rot in times of low budgets. And to train the forces back up to speed after years of just sitting in the barracks.

I read through that, but here is the thing. That aircraft was not really made for the Air Force. It was also not designed to replace the A-10, or most of the other things it talked about. That entire thing was a joke.

Gut the absolute shit out of; board up our countless bases across the 3rd world; bring home soldiers who are risking their lives to protect Saudi oil routes; spend money wisely instead of fattening up military contractors. We have completely wasted 20 years blowing up caves in the Middle East to soothe our pride. Decades longer than that even, and it has allowed other nations that we call enemies to surpass our technology.

Look at this budget:

"Operation and Maintenance" and "procurement" are 61% of the budget. Last year or the year before Germany was pissed that we were going to move a base from there to Poland and that meant they'd stop getting our sweet, sweet operations and procurement money. Billions of dollars tossed into the wind in the name of policing the world so they don't have to.
