I have fire insurance, if a fire or windy storm or earthquake were to destroy my home ... I get a check to cover my losses* ... however, I don't have flood insurance so if my house floods, I won't get a penny from insurance ... I'd have to rely on charity ...

Republicans aren't very charitable, to that's why North Carolina is still not getting enough welfare money ...

I wintered one year in that part of the country ... same problem as any mountainous region ... rain water collects in the bottom of the valley where humans build their homes ... I always check the FEMA maps before I buy land ... currently I'm in Zone X, "above the 100-year flood level" ... but the house is 130 years old, so there's some math involved ... not to mention these Holocene deposits are still kinda sorta sliding down ... the whole neighborhood will be in the drink in a mere 10,000 years ... meh ...

FEMA can't spend money without MAGA Mike Johnson's permission ... which he is withholding ... perhaps FEMA believes they have to follow the law ... I'm curious why you think FEMA should break the law and spend tax-payer money without Congress' appropriation ...
