Ford already has 20,000 reservations for new electric F-150 Lightning pickup

Looks like there is some interest in this vehicle---When the worlds most popular truck, the F-150, goes electric--it's a sign--of course, a lot of Right wing types won't buy it..since they can't blow a bunch of obnoxious smoke...LOL!

The automaker revealed the vehicle at 9:30 p.m. ET Wednesday night during an elaborate presentation at the company's world headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. The company's shares jumped by about 3% in premarket training.
The reservations are being closely watched by the company as well as investors to gauge the interest of customers in EV pickups, which is an unproven segment that automakers are rushing to enter.
Ford is taking reservations for the vehicle on its website. A refundable $100 deposit is required.

Ford has yet to publish range numbers for a fully loaded truck towing a 5 ton trailer. I have a feeling that the towing range is going to be about half of the empty truck range or possibly even less than that

If this thing can't haul then it's no good as a truck and is nothing but a daily driver.

With any towing or load in the bed the range will be substantially less. Throw in AC, additional passengers, heating or cold weather and you better not be going too much farther than the Home Depot down the street.

I saw a video the other day about charging stations.

It cost about $1K to have one installed in your garage. If you live in an apartment you will be dependent upon public stations.

There is no standardization on plugs between the different vehicle makes if you have to use a public station. The same with the charging stations. There are more than a dozen companies doing charging stations and they all are different.

Most charging stations take hours to charge. The quick charging stations are few and far between. You have to have a special plug for quick charging. If you are on a trip and have to use a public station you make have to sit in your vehicle for quite a long time to get a charge.

Some cities like Bolder Colorado have many of them. Other cities like Tampa Florida have very few.

When we changed from horses to cars, the government built asphalt roads and gave oil companies money to build gas stations in counties that didn't even have any cars. Without government subsidies, we wouldn't have transitioned to cars when we did. People whined because their tax money was being used for something they didn't think would ever work back then too.

You Moon Bat shitheads sure love you big government, don't you? Maybe the government will subsidize an industry to create machines to wipe your ass so you don't have to do it yourself. That would be fantastic, wouldn't it?

We are all taxed too much already. The last thing we need are assholes like the Solyndra executives getting even more of our tax money.

The program that gave Solyndra all that money ended up making lots of money. So Solyndra went bust. Big deal. Lots of others who were funded by the same guidelines made up the difference, and then a lot more.

Manufacturers don't do that for gas vehicles either. Most people do not use a truck that way. Ford will continue to make diesels.

It doesn't matter with a gas or diesel because it only takes 5 minutes to fill the tank where it takes hours to charge the batteries.

The electric pickup is completely impractical for anyone who uses a truck for what they are designed for.

And no one is forcing you to buy one.

I thought all car manufacturers are supposed to be emission free in the future.

So yeah people will be forced to buy them.

I made my living in real estate and I have owned and worn out 7 or 8 pickups in the last 30 years. The last thing that mattered to me was the 0 to 60 time or even the gas mileage. What matters is can the truck move all the tools and materials needed over the distances I needed them to be moved.

There's a reason Ford isn't publishing that info.

As I noted, no manufacturer publishes that info. No one is going to brag you get 8 mpg with a fully loaded truck. Technology is not going to come to a standstill because you are worried about what might happen in the future at some point.

Like I said it doesn't matter with a gas or diesel because the range is unlimited since it only takes a few minutes to fill the tank.

If you have to stop every hundred miles or so and sit on your ass for hours while the batteries recharge that truck is completely impractical when it comes to actually using it like a truck.

Besides that it's easy to add fuel costs into your estimates and not so easy to add electricity costs

Batteries can now be charged 80% of capacity in around 20 minutes.

IF you can find a place to charge them.

And those Fords need an 80 Amp power station to charge that truck from 15 to 100% in 8 hours or a 150KW fast DC charger to do from 15 to 80% in 45 minutes.

Until those types of charging stations are everywhere an electric pickup is flay out impractical and lets not for get that the range will most likely be cut in half when fully loaded and towing.

These are real issues that you want to downplay.

They will sell everyone they make.

So what? They'll still be useless for contractors.

So what? So are Corvette's.

subsidies started when the government oil decided we would be better off with cars instead of horses.
That never happened

Industry and consumers discovered oil and put it to use and didnt require subsidies
You bet Boo Boo. You really should do a little research

What happen was that some filthy ass Democrat campaign bundlers got rich with Obama's Environmental Wacko Green energy scam with taxpayer subsidies and then went belly up and walked away with nice bonuses.

Obama and Joe Dufus said that Solyndra was the "future of America". LOL!!!

Looks like Joe Dufus is doing the same scam with the battery companies that are making parts for the Faggotmoblie that Dufus was shrilling last week.

No, but the program was worthwhile and paid off big in the long run. Sometimes those programs need a little adjusting before they give the desired effects.

It's easy to claim whatever you want. Just like the government claiming we made money on the auto bailouts when in fact we lost billions.

Exactly. The lying Obama administration gave GM and Chrysler $50 billion of our money. They called about $20 of the money "loans" and the rest was given all kinds of dishonest names.

The companies paid back the "loan" portion and the lying Obama administration said everything was paid back but forgot to mention the other $30 billion that was never paid back.

That is the kind if dishonesty we always see out of the filthy ass Democrats. Joe Dufus is continuing the record of lying to the American people.

Solar energy is a big part of America's future.

You are either confused or an idiot. Solar is only (marginally) cost effective in a narrow sunbelt of the South West. Hell, it is even not cost effective here in Florida and we are known as the Sunshine State.

Solar, like the shitty wind turbines, are nothing more than a Moon Bat's wet dream.

Meanwhile lessons learned when the corrupt Democrats give away our money to these stupid Environmental Wacko scam companies.

Why the Solyndra mistake is still important to remember

This time the haunting is in the form of a report from the Inspector General’s Office, which after more than four years of investigation, concluded that Solyndra officials used inaccurate information to mislead the Department of Energy in its application for a $535 million loan guarantee. The report also found that there were shortcomings with the DOE’s process of managing and approving the loan guarantee to Solyndra.

Solar energy is a big part of America's future
I dont disagree

But with dems in charge so is bad energy policy to push solar before its ready

And you people dont even demand that it be made in America

libs are so proud of how many solar panels they INSTALL in the US each year

But the majority of those panels are not made here

However if we apply tariffs correctly as trump was doing they could all be made in America

The majority of photovoltaic solar panels sold in the United States aren’t actually made in the US. In the past few months, however, several Asian solar companies, most notably those in China, have begun moving operations and manufacturing solar panels in America.

Why? Because of an import tariff on solar panels implemented by the Trump administration. To incentivize US manufacturing, President Donald Trump introduced a 30% tariff on imported solar panels and the cells used to manufacture them. Because of this, some US solar energy companies have begun manufacturing at new US-based facilities.

This list of American solar manufacturers includes many of the leading solar brands you can buy in the US and includes Hanwha Q Cells, Panasonic, LG Solar, Jinko Solar, and SunPower.

Naturally biden will probably issue an executive order repealing the Trump 30% tariff

Well China Joe is owned lock, stock and barrel by the Chicoms, who are still paying money to the Biden family through that billion dollar investment scam. He will give them the jobs and technology that Trump took away.

That is just the kind of piece of shit he is. These Moon Bats were morons voting for him and then ignoring the fact that he stole the election.

Solar panels are only marginally cost effective in a narrow sunbelt of the South West. For most of the rest of the country it is not even close to being cost effective.

I firmly believe in the value of fossil fuel

Its one the greatest blessings in human history

And libs are crazy to harbor so much hate for a product that has done so much good

Someday alternative energy - mostly solar - will be our primary power source

But only when its ready

And its far from that now
