Facts About the Vietnam War that Liberal Historians Ignore

When in 1954 the Vietnamese people under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh finally defeated France in their 8-year war for independence, Vietnam was temporarily divided by the Geneva Accords into 2 zones, so that the French and the small minority of mandarin Vietnamese (rich landlords and officials) who fought on the French side could have time to settle their affairs in the South. An election was promised within 2 years in which the people of all Vietnam would be reunited under the one government they preferred. Experts agreed that the people would vote 80% for Ho Chi Minh, who was their national hero. But President Eisenhower and Secretary of State Dulles decided that, to prevent the southern half of Vietnam from voting for Ho Chi Minh, they would attempt (in violation of their promise to abide by the Geneva Accords) to replace the French and establish an American sphere of influence there. Dulles installed Diem (a mandarin Vietnamese whom he and Cardinal Spellman had found living in the United States) as dictator of South Vietnam, in Saigon, and encouraged him to cancel the promised election.

America's puppet Diem turned out to be an unpopular, reactionary, cruel dictator. He canceled not only the national election but the traditional village elections as well. He gave back to the rich absentee landlords the land that Ho Chi Minh had previously given to the peasants.
None of which alters the fact that Minh Cancelled the elections, seized power and started the war by attackingthe south

Give it up while you think you are ahead, i just showed how the South Dictator on US orders didn't want that election.
Liar

you showed no such thing you FAILED

You WILLFULLY ignore that the elections were already cancelled BY MINH

You are incapable of educating anyone being an ignorant brainwashed fool

You are a liar and ignorant fool.

So your argument is " I know you are but what am I ?"

Sonny youngster you are the proven liar, fraud and fool. I have stated historic truth

You sound like those nutters who say there are no Nazis in Ukraine, i will call you Captain denial from now on because you are either thick or a serial liar.

Refusing to be educated is disheartening but intentionally spreading misinformation, disinformation, and lies is demonic.
Yes indeed many are not stupid people so it's willful lying but that seems to be the norm these days with the collective west and their Disciples, they have started several wars in the past thirty years built on a pack of lies, they rely on the ignorant herd who are too stupid and lazy to research events for themselves.

No, elections that were postponed and then cancelled because North Vietnam rather quickly started a campaign of political assassinations in South Vietnam. Then followed it up with an armed incursion then invasion by the NVA.

And South Vietnam said there were not going to be any elections until the military attacks and assassinations ended. They never ended, so there were never elections.

Once again, amazing how your propaganda always seems to leave those very important things out. As I said, it would be like Russia demanding elections in the annexed territory during their war against Ukraine. But obviously, you think such things are completely valid.
You are talking total bollocks to try and justify the US and it's Southern puppet not taking part in elections, i have noticed this pattern of serial lying on several matters such as Ukraine to try and jutify their position at times in total denial about events like the 2014 coup.

So much truth in two sentences but you can sure that the willful liars don't understand a word of it until their sons get killed in a country they've never even heard of.

Only in the alternative world you have created in your own head.
No in YOUR world. The only ones here lying and refusingf to learn is you and this glasnost KID.

You are NOT better informed on this subject and you are not the smartest one here and you ARE deliberately and willfully ignoring inconvenient facts which I have stated

You are not discussing history you are pusching a stupid agenda with propaganda

What, you think nations should hold elections on "joining" another nation while they are being invaded by that nation?

And I am not surprised at all you think Ukraine should do the same thing, and reject the elections they held that said they wanted nothing to do with Russia. Obviously you simply love authoritarian nations that invade other nations to annex them.

Allow me to repeat facts that we now know--and have known for at least two decades--from North Vietnamese sources:

-- North Vietnamese sources confirm that the American war effort in South Vietnam was going quite well from early 1962 until December 1963, until a few weeks after the murder of South Vietnam’s president, Ngo Dinh Diem.

-- North Vietnamese sources confirm that the Hanoi regime decided to launch the 1968 Tet Offensive because the Communist war effort had gone badly in 1967, and because the Hanoi Politburo concluded that the protracted war strategy was not going to work.

-- North Vietnamese sources confirm that two of the other reasons that the Hanoi Politburo decided to launch the Tet Offensive were that they were certain (1) that the South Vietnamese army (ARVN, pronounced ar-vin) would collapse as soon as they were attacked, and (2) that the majority of the South Vietnamese people would rise up against the Saigon government (South Vietnam’s government).

-- Hanoi’s leaders were so certain the Tet Offensive would succeed that they made the astounding mistake of not making any retreat plans.

-- North Vietnamese sources confirm that General Vo Nguyen Giap, North Vietnam’s commanding general, thought the Tet Offensive was a bad idea, but Le Duan and his fanatical allies overruled him. Giap was so opposed to the offensive that he left North Vietnam for several months and played no role in the offensive.

-- We now know from North Vietnamese sources that even Ho Chi Minh opposed Le Duan’s plans for the Tet Offensive. However, by 1967, Ho was merely a figurehead, and Le Duan was the driving force in the Hanoi Politburo.

-- North Vietnamese sources reveal that in late 1967, Le Duan and other Politburo hardliners jailed dozens of officials and officers who opposed the Tet Offensive.

-- North Vietnamese sources confirm that the 1968 Tet Offensive was a crushing military defeat for the Communists, and that Hanoi's leaders were shocked by the scale of their losses.

Incidentally, after nearly all the Communist assaults were quickly and severely repulsed, the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong suffered unusually high casualties in flight because they had no retreat plans.

-- We know from North Vietnamese and Viet Cong sources that the Viet Cong never recovered from their losses in the Tet Offensive, and that from that point onward North Vietnamese soldiers filled most of the ranks of the Viet Cong.

-- North Vietnamese sources show that, much to the surprise of Hanoi's leaders, ARVN fought well in most cases during the offensive, and Hanoi's thus were particularly shocked that the vast majority of the South Vietnamese people stayed loyal to the Saigon government.

-- North Vietnamese sources confirm that by 1970 and 1971, the vast majority of South Vietnam had been pacified and was stable.

-- North Vietnamese sources confirm that the collapse of the southern insurgency was one of the main reasons the Hanoi Politburo decided to launch the Easter Offensive in spring 1972.

-- North Vietnamese sources reveal that another reason that the Hanoi Politburo decided to launch the Easter Offensive was that they did not believe the U.S. would intervene in a significant way. They were stunned by the massive aerial campaign the U.S. waged in support of South Vietnam.

-- North Vietnamese sources confirm that the North Vietnamese army suffered such horrendous losses in the Easter Offensive that for a few months a majority of the Hanoi Politburo actually turned against Le Duan and other fanatics and voted against continuing large-scale warfare against South Vietnam. However, this changed when the U.S. Congress began to slash aid to South Vietnam, and when Congress placed severe restrictions on President Nixon’s ability to enforce the Paris Peace Accords.

Again, these facts come from North Vietnamese sources, as well as from some Viet Cong sources. Yet, nearly all liberals continue to ignore them.
