Angry Democratic lawmakers held a venting session this weekend to complain about Virginia’s Supreme Court overturning its new gerrymandered map — and some of the Dems floated a “dramatic idea”: replacing the state’s Supreme Court in order to push through the new map anyway.

That’s according to a report from The New York Times on Sunday afternoon. The paper reported “struggling” Dems like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) held a private discussion on Saturday, where they fumed about the court’s ruling from a day earlier. They also strategized a potential counterstrike.

Journalist Reid J. Epstein reported the group discussed the “audacious and possibly far-fetched idea” to get the map they all desperately want. Not everyone loved the plan, though.

“The most dramatic idea they discussed — which would involve an unusual gambit to replace the entire state Supreme Court, with a goal of reinstating their gerrymandered map — drew mixed reactions on the call,” Epstein reported.

He added, “it was not clear that it would even be viable, or palatable to Gov. Abigail Spanberger and Democrats in the Virginia General Assembly.” Several Democratic lawmakers representing Virginia in the House were also on the call.

“They did not land on a specific course forward, and Mr. Jeffries and the other members of Congress agreed to consult with their lawyers about the most prudent way to proceed, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a private talk,” the report added.

The Dem discussion comes as both parties are locked in a redistricting battle heading into the 2026 midterms. Friday’s ruling from Virginia was a blow to Democrats, since the new map would have given the party an advantage in 10 out of the state’s 11 congressional districts.

Comment:
The Left's idea of "democracy" is very strange.
An independent judiciary is essential for fairness in a democracy.
When they can't win fairly, they try to change the rules
The Democrats want to govern like thugs.

We’ve seen this play out before

If you win within the law and regulations you created, bend the law and rig it in your favor. As I said in another thread, these are Third World tactics being discussed because they didn't get their way.

During a private Saturday call that included Virginia's Democratic House delegation and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), lawmakers vented over Friday's ruling and floated what The New York Times described as "an audacious and possibly far-fetched idea" to replace every sitting justice and reinstate their map, according to a Sunday report.

The scheme includes lowering the mandatory judicial retirement age from 75 to 54 — the age of the youngest current justice — forcing all seven off the bench. Virginia judges are appointed by the Democratic-controlled General Assembly, which could then stack the court with friendly replacements.

Hardly any surprise there, Trog. I mean,
  1. Democrats stand by the rule of law, only so long as it rules in their favor.
  2. Democrats stand by the Constitution, but only so long as it sides with them.
  3. Democrats stand for the peaceful transfer of power, but only when it transfers power to them.
  4. And Democrats stand behind their judiciary, but only until it stops finding in their favor.
Democrats ignore, kill or replace everyone who does not support or assist their fascist agenda, then remark how they are widely supported and most agree with them.

Funny, that is just what the Iranian mullahs and IRGC say--- they rule by popular trend because they've killed any and every person who has ever disagreed with them.

Let them fret and fume. The democrats do not control 2/3rds of the Virginia Senate, the process would still run out the clock on them and it would result in a trouncing at the polls. They will just have to actually follow the law and try again before 2026. BTW, it isn't that unheard of--WV impeached its entire supreme court for spending too much money redecorating a few years back.

If they lose the election now, you know they will blame it on their Supreme Court and seek to impeach every last one who voted against them. Sure, WV replaced their SC, but they did it for fiscal abuses of privilege and not just for doing their jobs enforcing state law.

So, after losing the election, Dems will declare it the result of fascist meddling by Trump and the Republicans blocking their attempts to gerrymander the whole state blue.

A Private Call Reveals Democrats’ Desperation Over Tossing of Map

A conversation involving House members from Virginia and the top House Democrat reflected the fury and desperation that has gripped the party after Friday’s ruling in the state.
10 May 2026 ~~ By Reid J. Epstein

Democrats are struggling to respond to a major redistricting setback in Virginia, with some party leaders discussing an audacious and possibly far-fetched idea for trying to restore a congressional map voided by the court but showing little indication they have a clear plan.
During a private discussion on Saturday that included Democratic House members from Virginia and Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York, the minority leader, the lawmakers vented anger at their defeat at the Virginia Supreme Court, spoke about a collective determination to flip two or three Republican-held seats under the existing map and discussed a bank-shot proposal to redraw the congressional lines anyway, according to three people who participated in the call and two others who were briefed on it.
They did not land on a specific course forward, and Mr. Jeffries and the other members of Congress agreed to consult with their lawyers about the most prudent way to proceed, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a private talk.
The conversation reflected the desperation and fury that have gripped the party after the state Supreme Court struck down a favorable map that had been ratified by voters. The most dramatic idea they discussed — which would involve an unusual gambit to replace the entire state Supreme Court, with a goal of reinstating their gerrymandered map — drew mixed reactions on the call, said the people, and it was not clear that it would even be viable...

One key to the plan would be having Democrats in Richmond lower the mandatory retirement age for state Supreme Court justices, an idea that began circulating among state lawmakers and members of Congress after a column proposing a version of the idea was published on Friday night in The Down ballot, a progressive newsletter.

Commentary:
Virginia Democrats have not been this agitated since the country took their slaves away.
Democrats care nothing for the law, the Virginia State’s Constitution, or the U.S. Constitution. Their answer is to get rid of the current justices and appoint unscrupulous ones to do their bidding. Absolutely reprehensible! These people are pure evil.
Really? Are they serious, so they are going to try and FORCE these judges to retire many of them are DEMOCRATS, just so they can bring in their own bought judges to give them the votes they need, LOL WOW!
What passes for principle with the Dems is this: if you can’t win with the rules as they are, change them.
Democrats truly believe that every person who doesn’t vote should be counted as a vote for them. They think it’s not fair that every ballot doesn’t default to the Democrat. They think that is not Democracy.

fury and desperation

Fury and Desperation. I love it. Democrat's natural state.

Hope Apoplexia follows it next.

Who is surprised Democrats immediately huddled to scheme up other election RIGGING options? I'm going to guess nobody.
Ever notice BL how Democrats act just like rats? Rats chew a hole into your house to steal food, and the minute you discover their action and plug up their hole, they all huddle together and start looking for a new way to chew into your house so they can go right on stealing.

Democrats know they can't win fair and square,
They likely never have, neither.

not with their shit candidates and their shit policies.
That is probably why all their candidates and policies are crap, just like Joe Biden in 2020---- why make an effort when you know your people and policies are all just a front for the /appearance/ of an election while they all work in the background to FIX the outcome?
