So how many of you get mail on Saturday? If not what about stopping USPS delivery on Saturdays?

According to recent USPS data, the Postal Service spends approximately $5.8 million per day on salaries and benefits for mail delivery, which represents the average daily cost associated with delivering mail.

Stop delivery on Saturdays would save over $300 million. Why not? I don't need it on Saturday!

Companies who do business on Saturdays do.

i was wrong in my assumption that the majority of you understood the distinction.
My suggestion was mail delivery to your mailbox be just 5 days no Saturdays and obviously no Sundays which it is now!
So again, given the additional cost of USPS of delivering to your mailboxes on Saturdays of over $300 million a year is the issue. I mean we seem to survive for decades without mail on Sundays, and that certainly disrupts the daily flow which one argument was made here... How does that happen?
So again... the question is how many of you could do without mail on Saturdays) (as you do on Sundays) if it saves $300 million of your tax dollars?

it does not save 300 million of your non tax dollars.....the first 3 days of the next week will eat that up....

You get that what, once every 30 years or so? wahhhhh

That was the second letter I got from them in just Dec. And in Sep they lost a package of my medications and they never showed up.

Usually Sundays are for contract, third party deliveries for UPS and other carriers. If USPS can't make money on those types of contracts they need new negotiators.

AGAIN just for clarity! My question is simple. Do you think mail delivered to YOUR MAIL box on Saturdays is worth the $5.8 million per day or $300 million per year? AGAIN... mail delivered to your mail box on Saturday like is done on the weekdays... Is that truly necessary to you? Not "packages", not special deliveries... but plain old mail delivered on Saturdays to your mail box? GET IT???

so what about it?....what does that have to do with sat delivery?..
It's all connected.. The complaints show that serious problems exist, and then you look at the money going into that division of the government, an̈d it makes everyone scratch their head thinking WTH. It just goes to show that serious reforms are needed.

So your beef is with the cuts possibly targeting Saturday operations, and that just irritates you because you feel that it will cause you an inconvenience when it comes to getting your mail on Saturday right ?

how do you know it bothers the carriers?...
Don't start acting like a leftist on here Harry. I've talked to mail carrier's in my area, and they hate junk mail. When my mom past away, I actually had to remove her mail box in order to stop the junk mail constantly filling it up every week, and even after death. Amazing stuff.

Actually it sounds pretty cheap for a nation wide operation, considering the number of houses and businesses there are around the country. Works out to about 1.7 cents per day per person in the U.S., around $5 bucks a year or so.

Try delivering your own mail around the country and see how much that would cost you. lol

again just for clarity that 300 million will be gone after the first 3 days of the next week with the OT paid out to catch up....

it has nothing to do with me getting mail...i could care less....im talking about what the people who have to deliver the stuff on Monday will have to deal with....no money will be saved....like the poster above said...

If you break down anything in these ways, it kind of distracts from the reality of the situation, otherwise if it is a waste that could be chipped away at, then the savings could also be surmountable or looked at in the same rationalizing way. I did get your point though... 😆

Each carrier would gain maybe a few extra letters to be added to an individual's bundle of stuff in which will later be placed into the individual's mailboxes right ?? Back at the hub is where the mail is separated and sorted by address, and then placed on a carrier's route for delivery correct ? The carrier or delivery person doesn't have any part in organizing the mail while on the route do they ?

a few extra letters?.....lol...try hundreds......you organize before you hit the street...

I only check my mail every one-two weeks, unless I happened to have ordered something being shipped by USPS. Even then, I know exactly when it’s arrived thanks to tracking apps.

Zero reason to check it unless I have a specific reason to think something in particular is coming by mail.

The whole concept of checking for daily mail is quickly becoming an “old person” thing
Wait, do you have a PO Box or something? Ours gets stuffed after a few days.
