So how many of you get mail on Saturday? If not what about stopping USPS delivery on Saturdays?

If you break down anything in these ways, it kind of distracts from the reality of the situation, otherwise if it is a waste that could be chipped away at, then the savings could also be surmountable or looked at in the same rationalizing way. I did get your point though... 😆

So call up Fed Ex and UPS and see what they would charge for a letter delivered to where ever you want to send it. Get bck to us on the price. You do know you don't have use the the post office now, right? You can also stop them from delivering to your house, since they're so evil and inefficient n stuff. Have everybody that sends you stuff use Fed Ex and UPS and send it all COD. I usually get more than 1 piece of mail per delivery, so the costs per piece reduces that cost way down even further.

a few extra letters?.....lol...try hundreds......you organize before you hit the street...
A few xtra letters per customer, otherwise meaning picked up from the Saturday that is no longer in service for delievery, and carried over to the Monday haul correct ??

Really dude !! That is your rational response in debating as to whether or not the USPS could consolidate their delivery services by being more efficient within the construct of the organization ? Dropping Saturday would be such an upheaval in the mail delivery service's that only chaos and anarchy would ensue ? A little dramatic aren't we ? No one is claiming that the USPS service is evil or a stain that needs to be wiped out. All anyone is saying is that maybe it needs to be looked at in order to make it operate more efficiently in regards to it's overall budget and operational procedures.

Hilarious. You really don't realize what you said, do you.
Don't think that you realize what was inferred in the entire context of the post. Try harder.

Break it down for you - Just as one can break down what the cost to subscribers pay on a daily, hourly or minute by minute basis, so can the savings of any reform be laid out in the same way in order to show the savings if reforms are made to an inefficiently run operation.

you have no idea of what you are talking about....those few hundred letters added to the few hundred letters from Sunday as well as the few hundred letters for Monday equal 3 days worth of mail to deliver plus any magazines and parcels and circulars there..........Mondays are the heaviest day in the PO as it is.....OT will eat up that money you think they are saving.....try doing the job before you comment...

I already said they can go to every other day home delivery, but you need to make up strawmen to slay, as usual.

and since most mail keeps moving forward and stops at the carriers case stopping sat delivery will not help any....

And of course you can't show any savings by 'privatizing' home delivery. Nobody even tries, they just babble ideological platitudes and snivel when those are shown to be just stupid sloganeering.

Wait, do you have a PO Box or something? Ours gets stuffed after a few days.
No, I live in an apartment and everyone’s mail box is in a central location. Mine doesn’t get stuffed that quick, but yeah there is a ton of junk mail I throw away the few times a month I do check it

AGAIN just for clarity! My question is simple. Do you think mail delivered to YOUR MAIL box on Saturdays is worth the $5.8 million per day or $300 million per year? AGAIN... mail delivered to your mail box on Saturday like is done on the weekdays... Is that truly necessary to you? Not "packages", not special deliveries... but plain old mail delivered on Saturdays to your mail box? GET IT???

Short answer, YES! And if you don't want to talk about Sundays, stop asking why they were exempted.

.

I know the volume is different from the olden days, so what about this then - let's go back to the type of mail carried in order to see if that helps.

In order to save money by taking the two days off, then why don't we look at the type of mail that is allowed to be delivered in a current 7 day operation, otherwise maybe forcing cuts on various types of junk mail that is forcing mail carrier operations to be extended beyond the 5 day limit proposal in order to save millions ???

If regulated the type of mail to be carried by the carriers, otherwise making the carrier's job more precise, then would that help to cut back on the problem that created the 7 day a week delivery service or issue maybe ?

No one is talking about the privatization of anything. We're just talking about how money can be saved if take a second look into what goes on at the USPS operations in America.

you dont understand how the mail flows inside the PO.......first class, priority mail, dated mail, and other types, all have to keep moving forward by federal law....do you realize what kind of a nightmare you would be creating during Christmas and election times?..monday holidays would be making tuesday a real nightmare....beagle what you want done has already been tossed around a dozen times over the years.....it will create more problems and wont save any money....even the janitors here realize that...

FACTS... not guesses...
In 2000, 103,526,000 pieces of first class mailed in USA and the highest in history.
In 2023, 45,979,000 pieces of mail or 55% FEWER pieces of mail was sent.

Now much of the above mail was replaced by this fact:
According to recent data, worldwide, the number of emails
sent and received per day in 2021 was 319.6 billion
– 4.3 percent more than in 2020

Hmmm so In one year with just 6 days per week (number of days mail delivered to your mailbox!)
there were 100,114,700,000,000 emails sent...(100.4 Trillion!)
So again with 55% fewer pieces of physical mail being handled by the POST office in 2023 and people
using email instead of physical printing an envelope, and the document, putting into the outgoing mail,
and the post office delivering locally in less than 2 days... is it any wonder why over 100 Trillion emails replacing
55% of physical envelopes?

EXACTLY HOW much do we "guys" have no idea of mail? WHERE are your facts?
Here are mine:
ACTS... not guesses... 55% fewer pieces mailed that was delivered by mail personnel to the recipient!
If that doesn't make sense please correct me with YOUR facts of how many pieces of mail have been delivered.
YOU have the numbers???

like i have said you have no idea of what the mail volume at a carriers case is after 2 days off......add christmas and election mail....wow

And yet: compared to the peak 20+ years ago, mail volume is down more than half. This is not an "idea," this is not speculation, this is hard fact. Technology should be making things MORE efficient, not less.
