So how many of you get mail on Saturday? If not what about stopping USPS delivery on Saturdays?

like i have said you have no idea of what the mail volume at a carriers case is after 2 days off......add christmas and election mail....wow
Maybe a chart might inform you as pictures generally help people that can't seem to provide FACTS for their statements!

206.1 billion in 2004 VS 20 years later 2023..116.15 billion a DECLINE of 43% total mail, envelopes, packages, etc.

you dont understand how the mail flows inside the PO.......first class, priority mail, dated mail, and other types, all have to keep moving forward by federal law....do you realize what kind of a nightmare you would be creating during Christmas and election times?..monday holidays would be making tuesday a real nightmare....beagle what you want done has already been tossed around a dozen times over the years.....it will create more problems and wont save any money....even the janitors here realize that...
Not what I myself want done, but undoubtedly it is an issue for government beurocrats that are looking at areas to make cuts or changes in. Sounds complicated, but aren't all the issue's complicated when being dealt with, otherwise when trying to correct some things that are needed correcting ?

And yet: compared to the peak 20+ years ago, mail volume is down more than half. This is not an "idea," this is not speculation, this is hard fact. Technology should be making things MORE efficient, not less.
what makes you think it hasnt?....initiating the DPS mail system helped tremendously with the letters....flats it was so so....

mail volume at the routes is different for different routes....you act like volume is down the job should be easier....you still have to get out there and deliver the stuff that you have at the cases...and some days there is a lot of it....

Of course I expect if VOLUME is down then COSTS should be down!
FACTS are what I deal with and your subjective, totally unsubstantiated statements are the reason for the following!

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Postal Service today announced its financial results for the 2023 fiscal year ended September 30. The net loss totaled $6.5 billion, compared to net income of $56.0 billion for the prior year!
Total operating revenue was $78.2 billion for the year, a decrease of $321 million, or 0.4 percent, compared to the same period last year, as package revenue increases were offset by mail revenue declines.

Revenue for the overall Shipping and Packages category increased $324 million, or 1.0 percent, on a volume decline of 175 million pieces, or 2.4 percent, compared to the same period last year. In July 2023, the Postal Service successfully launched USPS Ground Advantage, a new shipping offering which provides a simple, reliable, and more affordable way to ship packages.
First-Class Mail revenue increased $515 million, or 2.1 percent, on a volume decline of 3.0 billion pieces, or 6.1 percent, compared to the prior year.

(JUNK MAIL
to you idiots...like Harry who deal with totally subjective comments)!!!
Marketing Mail revenue decreased $920 million, or 5.8 percent, on a volume decline of 7.7 billion pieces, or 11.4 percent, compared to the same period last year.
These decreases were driven by commercial mailers’ increasing use of digital and mobile advertising, an overall decline in advertising spending due to economic pressures, and a higher inflationary environment affecting print media production costs.

So again... tell me why a Saturday delivery is so important to truly uninformed people like you? Are you totally bereft of any use of the Internet that you depend on the mail????

lol....you are uninformed about how things operate on the inside..... you have no idea how much mail is at a carrier case when they get to work...i do....you are talking about something totally different.....what a carrier has to take out the door has little to do with overall postal volume....some routes get lots of mail.....

And maybe that's YOUR problem as you are looking at the issue from your singular, subjective point of view!
I'm looking at facts, not subjective opinions based on personal experiences.
DEAL with reality that the USPS have continued to use TAX dollars wastefully. And one way is why have humans working on 6 days when the rest of capitalism has moved to 5 days?
What a waste of human beings.

If mail was regulated as to what government carrier's were to carry, otherwise defining what essential mail is to be delivered minus the junk mail or Christmas cards etc, like some here are saying, especially after with the advent of phone text cards, email card's and such, then how would that work ?
like i said Saturdays have been tossed around for as long as i worked there....it will create more problems and wont save any money....
Guess it'll all have to be seen if it happens.

someone has to look at it from the people who actually touch the mails point of view....they are the ones who have to deal with delivering the stuff after people like you make the job harder...

Harder or smarter ?

most junk mail has dates on it....and you do realize that people still send cards...and lets see you curtail political mail at election time....

It can all be done, otherwise what you are holding onto might be a dinosaur of the past, but it will have to be proven over time I guess. Political physical mail might fall under essential mail, but it could be regulated to a lesser amount if guidelines are created and applied. Christmas card's can be relegated to the internet zone for faster and easier transfer and pick up.

I use text for all my reaching out to family and friends during holidays and also on special occasions... They all respond in kind to every ecard sent.

some people like physical cards... Political physical mail is regulated and has guidelines which are it is treated like first class.... and will be delivered when it comes in no matter how much...and those people abuse their franking privileges a lot........

What about the tremendous drop in mailings since the internet has become more ingrained into American society ? Is the old way slipping away as new technology prevails or helps limit the overburdened system ?

many new things in the PO depend on how they implement them......when you have people who have no idea what it takes to put up a route, pull it down, then go and load up the truck and get out there and deliver it telling you you aint doing it right.....you will have problems....

Not sure if this answered my question, but ok.

Way, way, way back in the day I knew every name of every family on every address in my town. A couple of years ago, I went to mail some international packages for Christmas and the clerk actually remembered me from back then! An amazing memory!
