e bill: Republicans State Rep. KyleKoehler, Sen. Joe Uecker and Rep. Robert McColley recently introduced a bill that would require women who have had abortions to fill out a form provided by the Ohio Department of Health indicating whether they would prefer to cremate or bury their aborted fetus, Cincinnati Enquirer reported Monday. Clinics would be required to perform the designated method then could require the women treated to pay the cost, according to a Ohio Public Radioreport.

In addition to curbing women's decision-making autonomy, this requirement raises other possible infringements on women's rights. Currently, the identities of women who have had abortions in the state are not collected. McColley assured Ohio Public Radio that these forms would not serve the purpose of collecting "specific person by person names and information" to form a registry of women in the state who have had this procedure. But requiring them to sign such forms raises questions about their anonymity all the same.

he cost of this type of disposal, which could be placed squarely on women who have the procedure, is also concerning. Studies show that abortion in the United States is concentratedamong low-income women, yet cremation costs $1,100 on average and burial costs even more, Jezebelnoted. Though seemingly central to the legislation, McColley said to Ohio Public Radiothat the exact details of disposal have yet to be determined.

Though this bill centers on and raises concerns for women undergoing this procedure, supporters insist the issue is a matter of respect for fetuses.

"The idea of respectfully treating the remains of an infant who has been aborted, I think is critical," Republican Rep. Barbara Sears told Ohio Public Radio of the bill.To illustrate this point, Sears compared the current treatment of aborted and miscarried fetuses to that of deceased pets.

a very slippery slope.....as the gop tries to limit the rights of women with crazy measures...like this

what about miscarriages....are they gonna be forced to do this......

This bill is an outrage. The mother should have the option of making a profit by selling the body parts of her aborted baby.

This abortion thing has gotten completely out of hand. The funding for Planned Parenhood is in the BILLIONS annually because pregnancies are not planned for complete LACK of planning, i.e., prevention isn't even a consideration. If you indiscriminately jump in the sack, you must be ready to shoulder the consequences by being prepared to pay up as well as own up. If you repeatedly do this, then you'd better have the money to cover it, and be accountable to be called out for your insensitivity. This is the life of a human being at stake here, not some deceased pet as Barbara Sears would have us think. That's not an apples-to-apples comparison in any sense!

From the article:
GOP lawmakers were working on this proposal more than a month before Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine revealed Friday how Planned Parenthood clinics in Ohio, including one in Mount Auburn, use medical-waste companies to dispose of fetal tissue. The clinics in Cincinnati and Columbus use Marietta-based Accu Medical Waste Services to heat the fetal tissue in an autoclave to sanitize it before disposing of the remains in a Kentucky landfill.

The third Planned Parenthood clinic that performs abortions, located near Cleveland, uses Illinois-based Stericycle for medical waste even though their contract prohibits removing aborted fetuses.
Aborted Babies are classified as "Medical Waste" and disposed of illegally. At least according to the already signed contracts.

Sounds less like an "Abortion" issue and more like a "Who's gonna pay for this?" and "Why are they violating their own Contract?" issue.

It's a lot about prevention---including birth control methods such as Depo-Provera shots and vasectomies, HIV testing and treatment for STDs.

Look--if people did what *I* thought they should do then we wouldn't have any issues.
But they don't. This is what we have to work with. Let's get it done.

Yes. It says women that have miscarriages will also be forced to sign. I think that would be adding undue trauma or stress to patients.

it is unbelievable.....simply unbelievable....why are conservatives so pro forced birth?

It is unbelievable...simply unbelievable...why non-conservatives choose to be murderers and insist upon affecting for life women who eliminate their babies (yes, the b-word).

The taxpayers are supposed to pick up the tab for everyone's sexual excesses! What's wrong with people anyway.

the pro-choice political position is the true conservative position.

and calling pro-choice voters 'murderers' is a lie.

rethuglicans are advocating once again for big government intrusion into our private medical decisions.

thugs thoughtlessly pander to emotion at every turn, it's pathetic.

If this is a private medical decision, why do you give the bill to someone else? That should be just as private.

Do you left wingers realize that the only centrally directed control of women's reproduction actually came at the hands of secular, left wing socialists.....China....and that the religious myth is just that...a fantasy you guys pretend you are afraid of while you help support left wing social engineering?

I have an idea, why not author a bill requiring age appropriate sex education as part of a comprehensive health curriculum in public schools, provide free contraceptives to men, women and minors who are sexually active, and with special attention for the costs and responsibilities of raising a child, domestic violence and (for the boys/men) that no means NO!

Outcomes:
  • less unwanted unplanned pregancies
  • less sexually transmitted disease
  • less guilt and fear mongering
  • less posts by misogynists and authoritarian jerks.
  • less bills and laws used to denigrate women which do not prevent unwanted pregnancies
  • less mental anquish (which seems to be the goal of the assholes who authored the bill in question).
