Bullcrap. Under governments freely chosen by democratic elections Eastern Europe would have been saved from both the Nazis and the Soviets who were actually worse than the Nazis. After all, Stalin had nothing to do with the post-war governments of West Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, France. All of western Europe had far better living conditions and economies than the countries under Stalin's Soviet Union.

There was no myth about what the Red Army did to the Nazis, they were responsible for about 85% of Nazi casualties, and as Churchill said the Red army tore the Guts out of the Nazi war machine, end of story, i have two of the books by Antony Beevor on my shelf, D-Day and Arnhem both quite good, i believe he did one on Stallingrad.

When I travel for work, I'll sometimes tune into Radio 4. An American was talking about the ghost army and what they did. Very interesting although there's not a great deal about them. Just reading the Wikipedia link gives sufficient detail about them.

I need to read up on the Red Army.
