Post-impeachment, Trump declares himself the ‘chief law enforcement officer’ of America
Does his track record reflect the actions of someone worthy of the title?
Trump told CBP head he’d pardon him if he were sent to jail for violating immigration law
President Donald Trump told Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan he would grant McAleenan a pardon if he were sent to jail for having border agents block asylum seekers from entering the US in defiance of US law, senior administration officials tell CNN.Trump reportedly made the comment during a visit to the border at Calexico, California, a week ago. It was not clear if the comment was a joke.
Two officials briefed on the exchange say the President told McAleenan, since named the acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, that he “would pardon him if he ever went to jail for denying US entry to migrants,” as one of the officials paraphrased.
Donald Trump Tells Crowd to 'Knock the Crap Out Of' Hecklers
Donald Trump told supporters Monday to “knock the crap out of” would-be hecklers at a campaign rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.“If you see somebody with a tomato, knock the crap out of them,” Trump said, referencing another incident with a protestor.
Trump was in Iowa last week when a protestor threw a tomato—and missed. Protests are frequent at his rallies, with the disruptions protesting the rhetoric of some of the GOP front-runner’s talking points.
Trump said he would even pay for any legal fees that supporters incurred stopping a tomato-thrower. The theory was quickly put to the test when Trump spotted a protestor and had them removed.

And then, the coup de grâce.
Trump Pardons or Commutes Terms of All Jan. 6 Rioters
Trump Pardons or Commutes Terms of All Jan. 6 Rioters
The executive order pardons more than 1,200 people convicted in connection with Jan. 6, and commutes the sentences of 14 others.
Is that what the nation's chief law enforcement officer is supposed to do? Look the other way when laws are violated on his behalf. For sure, some past presidential pardons have been controversial and hard to defend on the merits. But I'm struggling to remember when any prez has so diligently intimated one need not worry about legal consequences if you break the law for my sake.
