I'm not so sure that Afghanistan would not have been better off, way better off, under Soviet rule, when the Soviets invaded in 1979. Many Afghanis actually welcomed the Soviets and preferred Soviet rule over what they had before. I've known a number of Afghanis who were there during the period, and their views on the Russian invasion were quite mixed.

Yes, Soviet military forces committed many war crimes in Afghanistan, but we have to remember they were fighting jihadists, who were arguably more brutal and vicious than the Russians.

only in the non pashto cities , + 90 % Afghanistan lived in villages at that time.

a-STAN , dont exist as a modern state, its just tribal territory . what Moscow Bolsheviks did to them ? they destroyed the traditional, very thin system checks and balances . Ever since then A-stan can not be fixed, we have tried and results ... so so ...

Most of the Afghanis I've known lived in Pashtun areas, and, again, their views on the Soviets were quite mixed, with some actually wishing that Soviet rule had been extended to the whole country and had endured.

80% of the population were peasants.

I agree with much of this. The Soviets never controlled more than about 28% of the population. It's interesting that some Pashtun villages actually asked the Afghan army for protection against the jihadists.

many say that American police-operation in a-stan is a failure . i dont think so, t-ban N2 is much softer than t-ban n1, the majority live in the cities, once birth rate goes down to the normal level , they maybe can fix this county . if han- china dont take over the situation of ´cos . ps they hate Muscovites, believe me .

The birth rate for Afghanistan in 2023 was 29.680 births per 1000 people, a 2.09% decline from 2022. The birth rate for Afghanistan in 2022 was 30.315 births per 1000 people, a 2.05% decline from 2021. The birth rate for Afghanistan in 2021 was 30.950 births per 1000 people, a 2.01% decline from 2020.

I am just listening to some idiot on the Radio saying we have betrayed the Women of Afghanistan to the Islamist Taliban what the fool didn't say or even know the West spent years supporting those same Islamists to fight the Russians in Afghanistan, when the Russians were there they had women Doctors and teachers even Women army officers etc, one terrorist we were supporting at the time was known for throwing acid in Womens faces, the hypocrisy and weaponized ignorance is off the scale.

Those people are tribal and any central Government would have a problem, the British found that out in the 19th century when two British military expeditionary forces were destroyed i believe there were no survivors for the second one, when the Soviets were there they had Women Doctors and teachers even military officers, but the west decided to destroy all that by supporting stone age Jihadis.

typical RT 🇷🇺 crap

why commie Han Mao´s gang supported THE FREEDOM fighters ?

han-China responded to the Soviet war in Afghanistan by supporting the Mujahideen and ramping up their military presence near Afghanistan in Xinjiang. China acquired military equipment from America to defend itself from Soviet attack.[110] At the same time relations with the United States had cooled considerably that by 1980 Washington had begun to supply China with a variety of weapons. They even reached an agreement of two joint tracking and listening stations in Xinjiang..
The Chinese People's Liberation Army provided training, arms organisation and financial support. Anti-aircraft missiles, rocket launchers and machine guns, valued at hundreds of millions, were given to the Mujahideen by the Chinese. Throughout the war Chinese military advisers and army troops trained upwards of several thousand Mujahideen inside Xinjiang and along the Pakistani border.[111] Overall, Chinese aid exceeded $400 million.
