I live in a right to work state. Very few people worked for unions. My family lived in a nice home and owned a successful small business. They didn’t buy into the government is here to help nonsense because they are smarter than people like you.

The reality- as unions have declined, so has the affluence of the white working class.

Poor people in my state are overwhemingly Democrat, not Republican. It isn’t even close. That is the thing you can’t seem to get through your thick skull. And before you ask, it doesn’t matter what state I live in because most Southern states have a similar voting demographic. Poor people vote Democrat and they continue to vote Democrat for the freebees. What they should do instead is to stop making excuses and take personal responsiblity for their own lives. Also, maybe you didn’t realize this, but the more you make the more you pay into SS and Medicare. For SS, the tax cap is about 168k/yr and linear, however, the algorithm to calculate the benefit is not linear. A person making 168k/yr pays the same 6.2% or 12.4% for the self-employed, as the person making 40k/yr however, the person making 40k will receive a larger benefit relative to their contributions than the person making 168k/yr. The person making 168k would have to live quite a bit longer to collect their benefits and that doesn’t include any compounding and interest they could have earned on that money over the years.

There is no tax cap on Medicare wages. 1.45%, or 2.9% for the self-employed. That means that a person making 400k/yr(rich according to Democrats) for 30 years of their working life will have paid $348,000 into Medicare. A person making $40k/yr will have paid $34,800 into Medicare.

In both of these cases, the higher paid person is no more or less likely to collect more SS or Medicare and yet one of them is paying substantially more. Tells us more about the rich not paying their fair share.

Weird. This chart doesn’t indicate that. Also, keep in mind that this includes higher incomes in large urban areas for the same work that are heavily blue. Those higher incomes often result in lower standards of living due to the cost of living. In addition, many extremely wealthy do vote Democrat which also skews the numbers. A successful working “rich” person is more likely to vote Republican.

Regardless, are you now trying to make the case that the more money you make the more likely you are to be a Democrat? If so, why is it that the Republican Party is the party of the rich? Why would Democrats be voting against their own self-interest?

I've achieved more than enough to live comfortably. Anything beyond that is greed. And I've never had to go to bed at night worrying about people I've wronged.

I've thought it through just fine. Either you are for capitalism (you only get paid as long as you are useful to your betters) or you support socialism (everyone gets taken care of.) Social Security is Socialist. So is Medicare. So is unemployment insurance. All these "welfare" programs that benefit middle class white folks that you all have no problem with.

I did read it. It was stupid. There should be NO cap on Social Security, and it should ONLY be a safety net. Seriously, you spend a lot of time worrying about the poor rich people not having enough mansions.

My position is that if you are making less than 50K, you have no business voting Republican. Yet, 42% of them do. Heck, if you are making less than 100K, you shouldn't be voting Republican.

Unfortunately, income isn't an indicator of how you should vote, and a lot of working class people vote against their own economic interests because of their racial, religious, and sexual fears.
