Zone1 Another question to ponder.

By separating the event from the lesson.

Jews believing God was on their side and accordingly crafting narratives of events to teach lessons about the covenant, obedience, justice, and the unique relationship between God and Israel.

Because what is the alternative?
Honesty would be better than all that made up shit.

Or they were passing down historical events and crafting narratives to teach lessons about the covenant, obedience, justice, and the unique relationship between God and Israel. So that the events would be easier to remember and pass down. Because that's how they passed down history 3,000 years ago. Orally.
Because that's how they did it doesn't make it accurate.

Even grade school children understand that the more a story is told the more it changes. Didn't your teacher whisper something in the first student's ear and that student whispered to the next student, and on and on until it reached that last student? What that last student heard was nothing like what the teacher first said.
What's your point?

I did for a long time. It was what I had been taught.
But you said you knew it didn't make sense. It was what you were taught that didn't make sense. You made it out to be The Lord of the Rings when in reality it was accounts of events crafted with narratives to teach lessons about the covenant, obedience, justice, and the unique relationship between God and Israel.

And now you are expecting everyone to believe it the way you did even though you know it doesn't make sense to believe it that way. And now you are arguing against the way that makes sense. So maybe what you are doing now is something else.

Just because you didn't know what you were doing doesn't mean that they didn't know what they were doing. They were teaching lessons about the covenant, obedience, justice, and the unique relationship between God and Israel. It's not their fault that you fucked that up.

Made up shit is really bad to base your religious beliefs on.
It wasn't made up. The historical events they were passing down occurred. It's not their fault that you read them literally instead of ciphering out the lessons they were teaching.

You can believe anything you want. I don't care. I was asked about my experience and beliefs. Sorry if that bothers you.

Great. after so many tellings it all still remains the same as the first time. Exaggerations and all. Nothing questionable about that, right?

If it's not literal it's made up. That's how it works. You are free to believe made up shit is real. I don't mind.

I don't care about your beliefs. I care that you are trying to gas light Christians with ridiculous arguments. Go live your life and be happy.

Not when you understand that the Jews believed God was on their side and crafted narratives of events to teach lessons about the covenant, obedience, justice, and the unique relationship between God and Israel.

This is pretty simple. You left your faith when you discovered reading these accounts literally didn't make sense. And now you are arguing with me when I agree with you that these accounts don't make sense when read literally but do make sense when you realize the Jews believed God was on their side and crafted narratives of events to teach lessons about the covenant, obedience, justice, and the unique relationship between God and Israel.

Nope. no gas lighting here. I have supporting reasons for everything I post. I am and I will continue to be mostly happy. If you are afraid those reasons might strain your beliefs, then don't ask for them.

I know a gas lighter when I see one. You guys are easy to spot. I can smell your subversion a mile away.

I'm pretty sure you already said that a bunch of times. Just go back and reread my response from when you said it before.

And you can expect to hear it every time you try to gas light Christians with your arguments of ignorance.

You left out the part where today's Christianity is based on made up bullshit, but the rest is kinda ok.

Says the apostate. The opinion of apostates doesn't mean much to me. They have axes to grind. How that brings joy to their lives I have no idea.
