Feds admit storing checkpoint body scan images
For the last few years, federal agencies have defended body scanning by insisting that all images will be discarded as soon as they're viewed. The Transportation Security Administration claimed last summer, for instance, that "scanned images cannot be stored or recorded."

Now it turns out that some police agencies are storing the controversial images after all. The U.S. Marshals Service admitted this week that it had surreptitiously saved tens of thousands of images recorded with a millimeter wave system at the security checkpoint of a single Florida courthouse.

This follows an earlier disclosure (PDF) by the TSA that it requires all airport body scanners it purchases to be able to store and transmit images for "testing, training, and evaluation purposes." The agency says, however, that those capabilities are not normally activated when the devices are installed at airports.

This is pornography and blackmail in the incubation stage. It reminds me so much of the Abu Graib torture videos that soldiers shared amongst peers until they went viral.

Why is it that the feds can never be honest about their invasions of our privacy? Why do they always have to lie and conceal the depth and breadth of their surveillance of the civilian society......while the borders remain porous and real terrorism is clearly of no concern to them?

They just want to have complete control over US, not any outside threat!

I HATE the tsa!

They are little people with a very small bit of power over others. Just enough to fuck with you.

No. They are overworked. And underpaid. They are constantly tested on protocol and security so they can .... Maybe ... Avoid another 9/11. They work ungodly hours so you can get your red-eye from the coast or your flight to Europe. They are denied normal raises b/c they are the only federal agency without collective bargaining thanks to Jim demint the piece of garbage. But you know what? No TSO has ever mistreated me...because I smile at them, am polite and don't give them grief. Most have no interest in harassing you. They want to finish their shift-- preferably without something blowing them up.

It's kind of funny that this is your blind spot.

Oh...and I don't believe the O/P for a second.

Giving the TSA agents collective bargaining and the protection of a union would be the last straw.
No one is underpaid. If a person believes their pay rate to inadequate, they have a few options. One is they can petition their supervisor for an increase in salary. Two, they seek other employment opportunities.
TSA agents made a conscious choice when they agreed to the conditions of their job and agreed to the wage package.
Each one of them is dispensible.

then the people who make those decisions should give up THEIR raises.

i really can't stand idiots who think workers should be taken advantage of.

You people are ridiculous. A few people act badly, and a few or others make wild claims and you want to dump the entire TSA? LOL
Have you dealt with TSA people? They are for the most part undertrained, uneducated, angry individuals on a power trip.
TSA agent's authority is virtually absolute.
That's dangerous.

you haven't a clue what you're talking about.

Now I haven't looked at all the pictures , but I don't see any with Handcuffs.

And again, you don't want any security at the airport? You are welcome to walk, drive, or swim.

Security at airports are one thing. BEING TREATED AS A CRIMINAL IS QUITE ANOTHER.

Good to see you sticking up for big government. Good sheeple.

The world changed on 9-11-01, if we don't wake up and accept that fact then we will be doomed to repeat that day. Or do you have any solution, other than crying about it?

I've dealt with TSA. I've seen them treat people in front of me with attitude, but do you know why? Because that is how they were treated.

It never fails though, if you smile and treat them nicely, they'll treat you the same way.

How would you act if you had to deal with people non stop EVERY day in your job that are rude, and act like they're better than everyone else. Stand for an hour and watch the people that are in lines at the airport and tell me that most of the people that are treated badly by TSA don't deserve to be treated that way.

I would like to extend my personal thanks to the TSA for helping to make sure none of us have gotten killed on a plane in a very long time.

While it takes a whole 1 hour more of my life to get on a plane, I think a mature person that doesn't want to die can suck up the minor inconvienience.

9/10 thinking got ~ 3000 people killed.

In the nine years since 9-11 we haven't had another incident and we didn't have all of these evasive body scanners and newly intrusive pat downs, so why now are they suddenly needed? Bullshit. There are other ways they can stop people from blowing up an airplane, like using intelligence to profile people instead of assuming everyone getting on a plane is a terrorist and us having to prove we aren't.

People like you are the reason why our liberties continuously get eroded.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Ben Franklin

In the nine years since 9-11 we haven't had another incident and we didn't have all of these evasive body scanners and newly intrusive pat downs, so why now are they suddenly needed? We used profiling, and got sued and sued again. People whined, people cried about how long it took, now they come out with a faster way through and it's still a bad thing. Flying is a privaledge, not a right.

There are other ways they can stop people from blowing up an airplane, like using intelligence to profile people We do that also, but not as an only, that is 9/10 thinking.

In all fairness, don't blame the TSA. Blame the brutal Terrorists instead. Many are frustrated and their anger in misguided. This is understandable though considering it is human nature. Our Government hasn't found a balance yet. Hopefully they will at some point. We don't want to give all of our Freedom & Liberty away because there is Terrorism in the World. We just need a balance.

What people forget is that it is actually one of the few jobs of the federal government (in the Constitution) to provide security. And it is the one job that some of these folks want them not to do. :cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

Who said anything about being taken advantage of?
The job is the job. The pay is the pay. If any one of them are unhappy with those two items, there are many other opportunities to earn a living.
Where's the problem?

You're guessing wrong, wingnut

There is language stating that by purchasing the ticket you agree to the rules and regulation set up by whatever agency(s) (ie HSA, TSA) and jurisdiction(s) (Customs, Feds, etc) is responsible for regulating the airport.

All of which are subject to the Constitution of the United States of America.

Just saying.

The COTUS allows people the freedom to waive their rights. The rules and regs that you agree to when you purchase the ticket includes waivers that allow them to search you.

If you go to a major sports event, or concert, the ticket to that will have similar language, which allows them to search attendees bags and pat them down.

No it doesn't.

Maybe that is because all those pics are of TSA agents who do not carry cuffs. On the other hand, since the TSA also has armed officers, I am pretty sure at least some TSA agents carry cuffs.

I do not blame TSA, or even the terrorists. I blame the people who think that strutting around, huffing and puffing, make a difference. This is nothing more than theater designed to make insecure politicians feel better, and accomplishes nothing to actually keep anyone safe.

Funny thing, it actually says nothing about this. Which is why Congress, as always, uses the Commerce Clause to justify the TSA.

Section 8 - Powers of Congress

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

Which explains how Congress can fund the military, but does not explain how they can force someone to be humiliated when flying from LA to San Francisco.
