Bernie Sanders calls for eliminating all medical debt at South Carolina event

We are the only industrialized country where people go bankrupt for getting sick

What is wrong with us?

A national health care system would help America be greater. I know trump says maga but all he does is make make americans hate each and fight and argue. Other countries can have these safety nets, why not us? Back off on our wars for profit and prosecute those that lead us into these wars like the bushes and cheneys.

And Obama's and Hillary's.

Best thing I heard Bernie say, like him or not, was that if America had a health care system like most other modern countries have, a guy wouldn't have to be tied down to working a job he doesn't like because he would lose his health care. Maybe he wants to open a business or whatever but can't do it because his daughter is sick and on treatments which can't be stopped. It might open up an entrepreneurial spirit in America, people not being nailed down to a job they don't like but can't afford to quit.

To bad we didn't get that back in 2008.

And he knows this, so he spends his time trying to highlight things that are a problem in our country. We have a great system if you have the money and the insurance, but get sick in-between insurance and you can be fucked for life.

A co-wroker's boyfriend was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when uninsured. An ER visit, where he found out he had it, and 4 days in the hospital has left him with a bill he will not be able to pay off if he lives to 80. Add to this the treatments and meds necessary and his whole life is now tied to getting sick at the wrong time.

You'll get no argument from me that the cost of health care in America isn't a problem, but Sanders' and others' ideas of nationalization is not the way to solve it.
We need to start somewhere

Bernie knows it and is offering a solution. I haven’t heard anything from the right

Bernie’s revolution would drive out insurance companies, that will rid us of an entire industries and lot of unemployed.

People will still be needed to do the work. Just no CEO's.

Pharmaceutical companies will shut down their R&D departments because the cost to find cures will not cover any profits. So kiss new medicines goodbye. Bernie’s idea will drive doctors and specialists away as the risk of getting sued will go up, the money the doctor’s make will go down, plus they will be paying more in prices and fees that they will be paying because the idea that the rich pay taxes will be proven wrong. That’s just healthcare. Your idea of a revolution is so far terrible.

Do we note again that insulin was discovered in Canada and it still costs a fraction in Canada what it does here?

Work? It should be all streamlined and run through the government, are you saying it will be more complicated or as complicated as it is now?

It's hard to tell when dealing with politicians.

So we will add 2.66 million employees to the government dole, seems like we are progressing and our taxes and increase of prices would hurt the economy.

As far as pharmaceutical companies, the United States leads the world in medical R&D but maybe you will be able to have the government hire some and cost the taxpayer more in taxes and higher profits.

I just haven’t seen where the government getting involved has produced cheaper or better, see the disaster of our education system.

Millions are educated every year. Just because you see it as a disaster, does not make it so.

Didn’t say millions aren’t educated, we have the most expensive education system in the world, we are at 60% more than the next country and our results are mediocre. Again, government program, more money mediocre results.

The US spends more on education than other countries. Why is it falling behind?

I guess when it comes to healthcare mediocre will work for Americans.

For those with none, that will be a step up.

If America can afford it. It will drive inflation, it would eliminate an entire industry so we can expect higher unemployment, an increase in national debt, which is the main reason I’m against it. We as a nation can’t take on more debt without some real consequences. I like the idea of healthcare for all, however there are some real problem that people aren’t looking at.

Yes they are.

And what is your solution? Tell people to drop dead. People can wrack up debt even if they have insurance. Doctors who work at hospitals that are covered by insurance but those specific doctors are not part of the network. Given that Trump wants to add cheap insurance that is worse than none at all, this is a major issue.

If "cheap insurance" is worse than none at all, how did that work with Obamacare "cheap insurance" that covered soup to nuts but had $6,000 deductible, $12,000 for a married couple?

Why should young, health, individuals not be allowed to purchase only catastrophic health insurance, across state lines from whomever they wish?

And republicans haven't come up with anything better and they never will, although trump said 'we'll have great health care', link below.

Imagine getting extensive medical care and not going broke

I can see how it would outrage conservatives

Like the millions Trump spends to go golfing?

Spoken like a child on a kindergarten playground.

He owns golf courses around the world where he has homes. He works for NO PAY.

It would be far cheaper to pay him. And he is being paid.

We will pay more for Trump vacations than Obama, Obama more than Bush, Bush more than Clinton, Clinton more than Bush. That is the pattern and I really don’t care as it is a part of a job that is very stressful and very demanding. In this day and age the President has all he needs to operate remotely. Never had an issue with vacations.

Trump is offering a great plan as soon as we re-elect him

Cancelling medical debt won’t bankrupt the medical community. Privatized medical has given the USA the most expensive, least effective health care in the world.

Americans are the most obese people in the first world, while many people are malnourished. Fat doesn’t mean “well fed”. Big food corporations process food, removing nutrients and flavour, and replace them with fats and sugars which are more “filling” but less nutritious.

And then there’s Big Pharmacy. Addicting millions to make a profit. Corporations exist to make profits. Doing right by their communities occasionally happens along the way but profits are the first consideration.

Rated 11th, just behind Canada at 10th, you must be proud.

I don’t eat processed food, so the aren’t making big bucks off me. I am responsible for what I eat as each individual is, so they need to accept the responsibility for what they put into their system and more and more Americans are waking up to healthy living.

Just sit in your little country and be happy you don’t live here, I am certainly happy you don’t live here.

That the problem with Americans. YOU'RE fine so fuck everybody else. You're supposed to be a nation - working in EVERYONE'S best interests. Not just those who are lucky enough to be born white and wealthy.

Try again asshat. Canada is #1, while the USA is 17th.

These are the 10 best countries in the world in 2019

Sorry, the US is 11th in healthcare, Canada moved to 9th.

I’m sure people are flocking to Canada.

People aren't allowed to "flock to Canada" for health care. Canadian Hospitals are not allowed to treat anyone from other countries except in emergency situations, as long as there are waiting lists for treatment. Canadian Hospitals are now allowed to sell their services to people from other nations because the hospitals are bought and paid for with Canadian tax dollars. The Canadian Health Care system is for Canadians and people living in Canada.

I meant move to Canada, why aren’t people running to Canada to live?

They are. We admit over 300,000 people annually.

Lol! Sure, we got your opinion. When the government does something there are all sorts of problems. That has me worried. We have Congressmen that will have to pass it to see what’s in it. Pretty moronic approach.

Just eliminate the war department (currently misnamed the Defense Department). Sell all foreign war installations and the pentagon too. Real estate in the Imperial Capital is very expensive. Cut the war budget to match China’s. Eliminate most of the navy, since we only need to monitor the seas just off our shores.

Huge money generated! Then make sure the liars in our political class aren’t allowed to take us to war EVER.

When failed former President Barack Hussein Obama removed all our troops from Iraq, who filled the vacuum? ISIS and Russia which forced him to concede his massive error and returned our troops.

Who do you see filling the vacuum, around the World, if your fantasy was realized?
BO was an awful potus, like nearly all of them. However, Iraq isn’t our problem or any of our fucking business. No need to fill the vacuum. That is just jargon for the war pigs.

Our HC system is now so expensive that Medicare 4All is cheaper, and much more effective.

Yes the uniformed are often confused by the truth.

Got to move FURTHER TO SOCIALISM as Warren is giving away more FREE SHIT to destroy this country sooner! GOD, I really do hate these people that want to take down the greatest country on earth.. .When will we grow a pair and simply get rid of these subversives....voting them out will not always work as more invaders get here and fraudulently VOTE themselves a living from government!

----------

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., told an audience in South Carolina Friday that he is working on legislation that would "eliminate medical debt in this country."

Sanders made the remark during a question-and-answer period following a town hall meeting in Florence on "Medicare-for-All." A female attendee explained to Sanders that she doesn't make enough money to qualify for ObamaCare and has a large amount of medical debt not covered by insurance.

When the woman asked Sanders if he had a plan for that, the self-described democratic socialist told her: "In another piece of legislation that we're offering, we're gonna eliminate medical debt in this country."

The Sanders campaign confirmed to Fox News that the proposal was new, but details were scant.

"We are introducing legislation that would end all medical debt in this country," Sanders told reporters as he departed the town hall. "The bottom line is it is an insane and cruel system, which says to people that they have to go deeply into debt or go bankrupt because of what? Because they came down with cancer or they came down with heart disease or they came down with Alzheimer’s, or whatever ...

"In the midst of a dysfunctional healthcare system, we have to say to people that you cannot go bankrupt or end up in financial duress," Sanders added. "That is cruel and something we've gotta handle. This is something that we're working on and that we will introduce."

Very much and that costs the (D)'s big time. I support UHC, that does not mean I support Democrats. Right now they are the only ones supporting it. I would have loved for Trump to not have been full of crap when he said he was going to present a plan, but...........he was full of crap.

Why do more Canadians immigrate to the United States than those from the United States immigrating to Canada. You have one tenth of the population however it’s almost 5 times more immigrate to the United States. My guess is economic opportunities.

I didn’t believe anything Trump or Clinton said in 2016. They were both full of it.
