Why the lack of preparation?

No, I'm not saying that at all. I'm just pointing out the dishonesty of Republicans suggesting that they're interested in infrastructure when they really aren't. In fact, they're historically against it.
I think it was a Dem that made the saying famous, but, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.", but both sides do it and live by it. Sorry if I skimmed your post, responding as if you said something out of character.

Yes, Republicans are historically against new or improved infrastructure. They and Dems prefer something new, they can see as immediately beneficial and 'New" for where their tax dollars are spent.

president Biden just did an infrastructure law. What we need to prepare for is climate change extreme weather events.
Tough sell, to those not living in coastal areas.

In california it appears that wacko greenies are most to blame for the fires raging out of control
They sure didn't help improve the situation.

The media will try to save him to run for president in 2028.
Yeah....
Trump is smart though. With all of these political attacks Newsom's chances are diminishing rapidly.

Especially since this has been a focal point of his attacks on Newsom for 12 years now.

Then,
Now with "Community Notes" style comments on all of Newsom's social media posts....his defense of attacks have become additional negatives to his political career.

He needs a completely different strategy but I don't think he can overcome this one.

So you don't think Trump could have gotten away with it, yet you think he can 'destroy democracy'. 🤡
The latter might be easier than the former, as groundwork is lain. Not that I think it will be destroyed on his watch, only damaged further.

BOTH party politicians are not so good about updating existing infrastructure.
I'll agree there.

Biden's "Build back better" program was supposed to be an infrastructure update and improvement plan that got eaten alive by DEI and social agenda programs. (Nothing built, money went to social welfare like studying transgender monkeys) He in truth only renaming a few Republican championed infrastructure programs like Obama did.

I am just glad we got the updated I-40 upgrades built going through our town. It is fantastic! Thanks, Joe.

Speaking about infrastructure updates like our ports....(severely needed)

Biden was facing a severe and devastating dockworker strike due to automation being installed at the docks. Due to Biden completely disregarding the labor contract which forbid the tech for two more years. Especially since it costs more to maintain the automated systems than the current methods.

The biggest issue during the 2020-2021 Dock disasters were due to a problem with the railroad merger of all rail shipments being reorganized under one parent company instead of the fractured multiple companies we had before. As a result the docks became clogged with rail freight not going anywhere. (Liberal judge at SEC allowed the merger)

That was state money for those upgrades....some federal but mostly state. Done deal back before covid.

Already needed and planned, maybe, but not implemented. Tennessee is hardly the king state of free spending on infrastructure. A lot of things just came together at the right time with Joe's infrastructure bill, including business expansion in the region, not to be overlooked, that came around the same time. What is different is the speed at which the project came together, construction started and completed, along with Federal financing became available. We have traveled on vacation, seeing other large projects in other states, slowly progressing, completion nowhere in sight, year after year as major project done on the "never never" plan. Never finished but never emptying in the coffers, due to the slow pace, "pay as you go" plan. This large project was decidedly different. Tennessee spent the Federal dollars on this one, quickly and efficiently, for a change.

With constant extreme weather events you would think people would use their critical thinking skills.

Individuals use critical thinking skills, people as a group, not so much.

Asphalt shingles are actually thought of as good against fires spreading, per the Google.

A reminder, those mountain forest areas remain mountain forest areas areas because they are pretty pretty unreachable, being mountains and all. Clearing that out is basically impossible, else there would be 100,000 houses through there instead.

Yes, because the primary ingredient is actually asbestos.....a fire retardant.

And it is not the carcinogenic form of asbestos either.

Also the shingles are coated in silica. An unflammable material like sand.

It seems that whatever the disaster is, fire, flood, hurricane, tornado, whatever, we are unprepared. Curious.
In the case of the present California wildfires, I don’t believe we have the necessary technology yet invented to deal with those problems.

Still, it would be amazing if our government(s) displayed any actual foresight. California could have spent money on things like fire protection instead of DEI nonsense. It could have cleared lots of dead, dry brush etc instead of giving those taxpayer dollars to illegal aliens.

I suspect the idiots in the Newscum Administration knew this, and have known it for a long time. But t they opted for meaningless political theater over common sense.

Just to point out...

The technology to deal with deadwood and overgrown forests was developed a long time ago.

So again, has anyone mapped the wildfires in California to the their starting locations and spreading as a function of federal property? (IIRC - something like 50% of California is federal land.)

Let's apply that thinking to wildfires.

People have choices as to whether they go to war. Much less choice about what nature will bring onto us.

But Trump does advocate policies that help minimize the loss of lives and property as much as is reasonable. One thing to do is thin the forests and remove as much combustible material as is reasonable around population centers and reservoirs. Arizona has been doing this for some time now. They still have terrible wildfires but not nearly the loss of life and property as they would otherwise have.

Defensible space is a thing. It's saves property from burning.
