Why the lack of preparation?

President Trump believes in peace through strength. He wants a military that nobody will dare challenge, but he is not a pacifist. All the bad guys know that if they mess with us, retaliation will be swift, certain, severe and deadly. That is how he achieved the closest thing to world peace any of us have ever known in his first term. i am pretty sure he will aim for that again Not preparation for war. Just a military so bad ass nobody will start one.
Let's apply that thinking to wildfires.

Anyone done an analysis of the fire locations, where they have spread, and federal land?

When you have incompetent leaders of course practical solutions go out the window ...

Coming back from my buddies house I posted a controlled burn I snapped a picture of a few weeks ago ..

We have wild fire hazards and warnings here too. Granted we're not as bad as California but we're susceptible.
We're also not as incompetent as DEI California

Is that video from a federal forest?

Looks like California did not want infrastructure dollars for improvement to water mains and fire line supply. Are you suggesting, he should have ruled over what the state wanted, forcing project on them? Is that what the next president should do for California? If so, should a President be allowed to force state projects within states, where the people living there or not? Personally, I don't think Joe could have gotten away with it, nor would trump.

So you don't think Trump could have gotten away with it, yet you think he can 'destroy democracy'. 🤡

Western conifer forests on the mountainsides are so littered with fallen trees that they are virtually impassible (been there, seen that). Cleaning them up would also be virtually impossible.

Understood. But my question was, was that video form federal forests?

What would you like to do? Fine them for buying houses they had nothing to do with building? That's what building codes are for.
It's only in the last two decades or so that communities are starting to implement stricter building codes to limit the damage that a tornado, hurricane or earthquake can do.

Metal roofs are expensive. I agree, they fare much better in climate zones that get a lot of snow and water. But they aren't very pretty.
But a fire of the magnitude in LA????............not sure even fireproof coating on a log structure would last that long. Just sayin.

But for most occupied dwellings, you don't want excess water accumulating around the foundation of the house. Water in the basement, flooding, etc.
Not to mention the fact that a three foot gravel bed isn’t doing shit in 50-100 mile an hour winds

Lots of info on that. Five times more area burned on Federal lands than on non-Federal lands.

Which suggests a more vigorous Federal response, imho.

Which is what I'm trying to figure out.

Forest fires are like a virus and spread. If you can reduce the virus/fire from taking hold - vaccines/forest management - then when outbreaks occur they are easier to contain and control.

But let a virus/fire outbreak spread uncontrolled and then have to try to contain it AFTER it's already spread is a much more difficult task.

If only we had a white guy in charge of the fire department the Great Chicago Fire never would have happened.

You can buy metal shingles that look just like asphalt shingles and other kinds of roofing.

Exactly. Put it out when it's possible to do so.

I just paid $30k for a new standard roof (50 year warranty).

I can't imagine what a metal roof would cost!

Forcing everyone in Los Angeles to convert to metal roofs wasn't gonna happen.

Like Notre Dame, letting it burn down and rebuilding from scratch is the only way.

Life's a BITCH!

Fireproofing might be the only way to get affordable fire insurance, and fire insurance might be needed for rebuilding, so there's that to think about.

Volume would surely bring prices down as well. Everyone would have to get on board with this, especially the insurance companies.
