Americans are so separated from true hardship that they've lost perspective.

Not if you ask your Congressperson. Oh wait, they're the ones complaining about it publicly, then they go to the nearest bar and wash their mouths out with alcohol while muttering, "I can't believe I said that."
That's you in the bar, not our congress critters.
 
Affordability is in the wheelhouse of unelected city planners.
I consider myself a man of modest+ means and I can afford what I want within reason.

I really don't lust after stuff I can't afford because, well, I can't afford it.....Too rich for my blood is something to live by.

"Mah affordability" is a lot about mind set and willpower.
 
The problem's wheel house is the oval office.
It's not the president's job to legislate what developments cities plan and build, although certain federal policies could influence how cities plan their developments.
 
If stuff was too expensive people wouldn't buy it. However, retail and food sales continue at a healthy pace. No worries.

They buy it...because when it comes to food and shelter, they have to. That doesn’t mean they can afford it....
