There is an alternative to arguing about those two limited unfruitful issues. Even if everyone agrees that it is metaphorical there is another effort required. What is the story teaching.

I don't see in these verses that it says he ate of the tree. It says "she ate fruit, she gave and he ate". Later verses says he ate "from the tree" (min ha'etz) but not "the tree".

Read the entire chapter, at least

Adam says explicitly that he was given "of the tree" - not the fruit.

God confirms cursing the land,
with the same phrasing "of the tree."

Then Adam alone is expelled - no mention of Eve.

Well, the argument can be made that the creative energy of the Lord is Love, so, as a product of creation by God, you are a product of his love, thus, a plenary portion of it, therefore, perhaps God intended to work through you using you to get through to these people, get their heads right and raise them up.

If Jesus was the son of God, then that proves that God can and does work through man, so even if Jesus was God's son, that is not to say there is not a little bit of God in all of us and any one of us hasn't the potential to help get God's work done on Earth.

The trick is to act on what God really wants, directs and intends, from one's mere ego.
