I really don't know. He was a federal officeholder, so SCOTUS says only the fed gov't can remove him, not states. He never worked for the states.

Well, this was obvious. Quite an opinion.

9-0 is quite the defeat for Colorado.

Sorta short opinion, only 20 pages. This was a layup.

"This case raises the question whether the States, in addi- tion to Congress, may also enforce Section 3. We conclude that States may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But States have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 with respect to federal of- fices, especially the Presidency.”

The Court holds that "ecause the Constitution makes Congress, rather than the States, responsible for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates, we reverse."
