Requisite skills to be successful in life are in a constant state of change.
Where once knowing exactly how to quickly and efficiently build a wagon wheel might have been a high paying job, these days changing and balancing a tire is still a low paying service job.

Marketable skills change...it's a universal constant. And industry changes are inevitable.
And just because no one is going into those fields of study doesn't mean that those skills are going to be obsolete either.

Mathematics and sciences are going to continue to be rare...so are Craftsman/tradesman skills. HVAC, Plumbing/Pipefitting, and electricians of all sorts are going to continue to be scarce.

my nephew is good at computers and the tech language but couldn't write a correct sentence grammatically if he had to. but he understands computers and can build up an exchange server from scratch and service most organizations with the designs. he has skills that will serve him well.

And he needs to be in a constant state of learning if he wishes to stay gainfully employed (as well as change jobs regularly)

Meaning learning the new equipment and languages. (Python 4?)

And it's great that he can do so...but it's constantly changing too as new tech comes out. Someplace like GM who has a huge online and data focused system is a good spot for him...they also pay for classes.

Where some places like Florence software barely can afford his paycheck and expect customer relations as part of his job...he may speak guru well but customers don't...their IT department might....but not the true customer.
