Trump certainly has shaken up the Establishment.
Eisenhower, Roosevelt and Churchill didn't have to deal with a radical Islamic regime dead set on getting nuclear devices.
I understand the cringing at Trump's style. I really do. Even I wince now and then. But the fact is he's got the guts to do things that Presidents past should have done long ago and kept kicking that can down the road.

An authoritarian government makes it easier for the governement to do things because the government is controlled by one or a few people without checks on their power. Our seperation of powers puts checks on all three branches if we implement our system as the founding fathers wanted.

Trump has really shot himself in the foot here, and even his obedient podcasters have had enough. The question now is how much domestic political capital he really has remaining, especially with the mid terms coming up.

As far as "authoritarian" government - leftists look at it differently than libertarians. Leftists tend to think of authoritarianism in terms of democacy vs autocratic rule. But, for libertarians, it's not about who is ruling, but about our attitude to their authority. The CCP is every bit as authoritarian as Trump (or Mussolini, or the kind of "dictators" that we usually think of as authoritarian), even it's not a cult of personality led by a dictator.

IOW - democracy can be authoritarian too. Maybe it's better insulated from that, but I think we're seeing that the insulation is paper thin. Democracies are fairly easily manipulated, and a frightened electorate can be every bit as dangerous as an unhinged autocrat.
