One of her more controversial things this horrendous governor did, was in the months before she left office, she let a lot of bad people out of prison.`
This particular cretin went right back to being a criminal and luckily was caught and thrown back in prison. Now it's looking like he was even worse than thought.

Officials announced Monday, July 17, 2023 that the deaths of four women, Bridget Webster, Charity Perry, Ashley Real and Kristin Smith are linked and that they have identified a person of interest.Photos courtesy of police agencies.
A man whose prison sentence was commuted by former Oregon Gov. Kate Brown in 2021 has been linked to the deaths of four women who were found within three months this year and within 100 miles of each other in the greater Portland area.

Jesse Lee Calhoun, 38, was among 41 prisoners whose sentences Brown commuted for fighting wildfires in 2020. Calhoun went to prison in 2019 on stolen vehicle and burglary convictions.

Except he wasn't in prison for manslaughter. He was in prison for vehicle theft.

Sounds like the police dropped the ball if they couldn't link him to themore serious crimes.

This isn't like Mike Huckabee letting murderers and rapists out because they said "Jesus" with sincerity.

Did you catch that?
Dimocrat,
"Kate Brown has granted more commutations or pardons than all of Oregon’s governors from the last 50 years combined"

Oh, here is the article about the "Jogger Rapist".

Nothing to do with Kate Brown, he actually served out his sentence of 36 years.

Though Gillmore admitted raping nine girls and women after casing out their homes while jogging, he was convicted in only one case because the others fell outside the statute of limitations. In 1987, a jury found him guilty of raping Edens, his last known victim. Several of his other victims, however, spoke at Gillmore’s sentencing and later successfully fought to be able to speak at his parole hearings to argue against his release.

36 years for a single rape conviction? Given that 97% of rapists never see the inside of a jail cell, I consider that reasonable.

Yes, this is a good thing. We have too many people in prison for non-violent offenses.

Also, the article you posted was mostly positive, nothing about a Jogger Rapist in there.

A "good thing"? Wow, yeah, whatever you say Joe, you might want to run that by one of the women he raped, who begged Brown to not let this piece of shit out.

We don't let victims determine what is an adequate sentence. If we did, they'd have executed that punk who stole my VCR in 1989.

We let the law determine that. The law determined that 1) They could only prove one rape in a court of law and 2) That 36 years in prison was an adequate sentence. Brown didn't commute his sentence, so it was completely irrelevent to this thread.

SO RAPE IS A GOOD THING?
Go Back.
Read what I wrote.
Have someone explain the big words to you.

Apparently to Joe, it's a "good thing" when criminals are let out of prison early, even when they've been convicted of horrible crimes.

36 years isn't early. if anything, they extended his sentence based on accusations they never were able to prove in court.

On a more macro level, the prison industrial complex is unsustainable. Locking them up for the rest of their lives means the state now becomes responsible for elder care when those crooks you locked up back in the 1980's start hitting their golden years.

Who "identifies" with them.
I point out that what we are doing now doesn't work, and in fact makes the problem much, much worse.

Throw a kid into a prison for a petty crime. He gets out, with no job prospects (because he has a record) and a lot of his humanity drained because he had to survive dehumanizing conditions. He's going to re-offend.

Maybe, and this is a crazy idea, we try to reform him before he gets into worse trouble.
