The US worker has bought into the American Work ethic.

Work long hours, weekends, minimal vacations, afraid to call in sick

The American worker feels guilty for asking for time off to be with their family, have a baby, enjoy a weekend

I had lots of employees and I never had an issue with giving time off and they certainly had no trouble asking for it. I can’t figure out where all these guilty people are that everyone pretends to exist.

Maternity leave?

You could have as much as you wanted, it wasn’t paid. Paid vacations started with two years, in the third year it was 3 weeks, then after 5 years it was four weeks but I had people take months at a time. Then we had a great sick leave program, like a week a year but the state wanted it as PTO, so we complied and incorporated sick leave into vacation time and called it PTO. The state covers maternity leave like 3 months.

How much of the USA has gone green? How about Europe? How about Asia? How many battery cars has China made in the last 5 decades?

China's production of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) reached 12.4 million units in 2024

That's 12 million less gas guzzlers polluting the atmosphere. And this is just one example. How many factories have gone green? How many solar panals and wind turbines?

We'd be even better off if Republicans didn't fight so hard to stay Oil and Coal.

Healthcare is better in Europe if you're poor than in the US if you're poor.

People are more likely to escape not being wealthy, as education is more equal.

My bosses kid is here from Germany. He was telling me all the problems in Germany. I've always argued that poor Detroit school kids should get the same $ as kids who go to public schools in rich communities. He said that's how it works in Germany. But then he starts talking about healthcare and how wealthier people who pay have to wait in line just like people who get it free. If you make under a certain amount, your parents can go to an assisted living facility FREE when they get old. If you make over, then YOU have to pay to put them in a home.

The more I hear about how Europe does it, the less I want to imitate them.

America is great because we socialize only what is necessary. Some things shouldn't be privatized.

We can quantify money.

So, the US has X GDP and Europe has X-Y GDP, so the US is "better" because we can quantify it.

Oh, but we can also quantify murders, we can quantify deaths on roads, we can quantify poverty, income inequality.

Nope. I'm a geologist. We don't use those words because they are meaningless. When we make a prediction it is accurate. We describe how the process works, where EXACTLY you will find it, and EXACTLY what you will see.
