Who could have ever seen this coming? NYC Mayor is skipping Israel parade, even though the city he represents is chock full of Jewish people. Doesn't he represent all New York City residents? Isn't this what mayors are supposed to do and have always done in NYC, attend the Israel parade?

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani will not attend an annual parade honoring Israel on Sunday, breaking with a decades-long political custom because of his support of Palestinian rights.

Though it has gone by different names over the years, the Israel Day parade has always been a must-attend event for mayors, governors and other political leaders eager to win over the throngs of flag-waving revelers who congregate on Fifth Avenue to celebrate the birth of the Jewish state in 1948.

Every or any person that identifies as Jewish living in NYC that voted for Mamdani ought to feel foolish about now. Either that and/or they are simply self-hating Jews.

So you think that all Jewish people should be loyal to Israel?

I thought that was an antisemitic trope.

I'd skip it too but for different reasons. I don't celebrate Cinco de Mayo because I'm not a Mexican. I don't celebrate Black History Month because I'm not black. I don't celebrate Martin Luther King day because I'm not a Communist. I don't celebrate Ramadan because I'm not a Muslim. So why would I celebrate an annual event commemorating Israel?

I wonder if or when NYC has a parade celebrating the history of Christianity. I'm sure that's completely taboo.

He should just throw pennies along the route.
Fker would be locked up for days.

NYC is full of Jews, many of whom support Israel. Isn't the mayor the mayor of all Jews in NYC?

But that is the mayor's job, supporting all of their residents. You're not the mayor there.

you are also not the mayor so what you do has no impact.

what does celebrating Israel have to do with being loyal to it?

I guess we will have to wait and see what other over 60-year traditions he decides to dump.

Yes, I do. It Is a Jewish State. If you don’t agree with how Israel is being run or its policies, push for change. But, being a Jew and voting for a leader that despises Jews or Jews having their own state is simply self-hating.

Why do conservatives expect all American Jews to support and show loyalty towards Israel?

I don’t. That’s wrong.
