Who could have ever seen this coming? NYC Mayor is skipping Israel parade, even though the city he represents is chock full of Jewish people. Doesn't he represent all New York City residents? Isn't this what mayors are supposed to do and have always done in NYC, attend the Israel parade?

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani will not attend an annual parade honoring Israel on Sunday, breaking with a decades-long political custom because of his support of Palestinian rights.

Though it has gone by different names over the years, the Israel Day parade has always been a must-attend event for mayors, governors and other political leaders eager to win over the throngs of flag-waving revelers who congregate on Fifth Avenue to celebrate the birth of the Jewish state in 1948.

Every or any person that identifies as Jewish living in NYC that voted for Mamdani ought to feel foolish about now. Either that and/or they are simply self-hating Jews.
So you think that all Jewish people should be loyal to Israel?

I thought that was an antisemitic trope.

I'd skip it too but for different reasons. I don't celebrate Cinco de Mayo because I'm not a Mexican. I don't celebrate Black History Month because I'm not black. I don't celebrate Martin Luther King day because I'm not a Communist. I don't celebrate Ramadan because I'm not a Muslim. So why would I celebrate an annual event commemorating Israel?

I wonder if or when NYC has a parade celebrating the history of Christianity. I'm sure that's completely taboo.

He should just throw pennies along the route.
Fker would be locked up for days.

But that is the mayor's job, supporting all of their residents. You're not the mayor there.

you are also not the mayor so what you do has no impact.

Yes, I do. It Is a Jewish State. If you don’t agree with how Israel is being run or its policies, push for change. But, being a Jew and voting for a leader that despises Jews or Jews having their own state is simply self-hating.

what does celebrating Israel have to do with being loyal to it?
Why do conservatives expect all American Jews to support and show loyalty towards Israel?

I don’t. That’s wrong.

Last I checked, NYC is a city in the United States and the people he represents are Americans.
Shouldn't the mayor of NYC be a mayor to all Americans in their city? Or, are you saying that American citizens who are Jewish aren't really Americans?

Probably a smart move on the part of Mamdani. A lot of people are looking to flee New York City, no reason to give publicity to the alternatives that the people have.

Why do you think American Jews should be loyal to Israel?

They’re American.

Jews celebrate the creation of Israel in 1948. We celebrate the creation of the United States in 1776. Mamdani is supposed to be the Mayor of ALL of New York. He isn't. He's a muslim and will only celebrate Eid.

They are having an Israel parade in NYC, always have had and all of NY's politicians have always attended, including the NYC mayor. That is part of the job description of a mayor, to attend these events. Does this mayor represent his city, or doesn't he?
