Genesis 1:25-27

25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Genesis 2:18-19

18 The LORD God said: It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suited to him.* k
19 So the LORD God formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each living creature was then its name.

Going to Genesis 2:4-5, "Generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens. And every plant of the field BEFORE it was in the earth, and every herb of the field BEFORE it grew. for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground." I'm going to go out on a limb and say that everything was made spiritually before it was made physically including the universe and the earth. Whether or not man was made first or last, the animals were named by Adam. Why was this important?
It's not a contradiction. The animals were formed spiritually first as was Adam. Thus, Adam knew the animals before being introduced into the earth. Adam is Michael the arc angel, one of the main hosts of heaven. Also, life was first formed before Adam. Then, after Adam was formed, God brought them to Adam to be named. There is no contradiction. The verse 19 is just stating something that happened in verse 25 of Genesis chapter 1. Not a contradiction.

There are two distinct creation stories in Genesis. The first mystical story was put there for the priests and the second was put there for the law givers. Don't try to reconcile them.

Please explain

I was taught in discipleship class not to speculate on the meaning of scripture but I do see where it can be seen as a contradiction. A Study of the original Hebrew and Greek text would be the best place to start finding the real solution to the discussion.

Please explain
You asked if there was a contradiction, but did not explain what the purported contradiction was. And then you simply said there was no contradiction. Are you having an argument with yourself?

Please explain
I thought I did. The first account where God is portrayed as a spirit moving over the face of the waters and calling the universe into being with a thought is meant to evoke the mystery and grandeur of creation. The second account sort of glosses over that part and is concerned more with establishing God's authority over over humanity and the price of not following the law.

This may explain it better than I could.

Genesis 2?

Is There More Than One Genesis Account of Creation?

I am reading genesis chapter one and genesis chapter two. I am having a really difficult time trying to figure out which story of the creation of man is true. Is it the one in genesis chapter one, or the one in genesis chapter two?
Ahla
Hi,
There is actually no contradiction between the accounts of Genesis 1 and Genesis 2. The best way to understand the creation story is to see Genesis chapter one as an overview of all God did to create the heavens and the earth. In chapter two, the story zooms in to look at day six and study those events in a more detailed fashion.
It's a technique of storytelling used even today by many movies. The film will start by saying something like "This is a story of two people. They met and fell in love. But then they lost each other. But after a while they finally found their way back to true love again. How they did so is the beginning of our story..." The movie will then show exactly how that all takes place.
The creation of man is written in the same way. Genesis 1:26-27 says, "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."

From the General to the Specific

Once we get to chapter two, verse four we read, "This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven. Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the LORD God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground. But a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground. Then the LORD God formed man of (8) dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being."
As you can see, verse four is a transitional verse. It starts, "This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created..." much like the "How they did so is the beginning of our story..." line above. Chapter two talks about God planting a garden toward the East - and growing plants there. This doesn't mean that there weren't plants in other parts of the world; it just means the focus of the story has shifted to man and his situation now.
I hope this has helped you in your studies. Please write back and let me know if I've left anything unclear. God bless you as you seek to know more about Him.

These people WHO CANT READ, think the first verse she mentioned says God made the animals on the 5th day then Man in the 6th.

She thinks the second verse she mentioned says God made Man, THEN the animals

It does not!

Gen 2:19
19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them

Some scholars think the stories... different stories.. are from Israel and Judea..and that they were cobbled together during the reign of King Omri.

No proof. Genesis is part of the 5 books of Moses. So, they have been kept in tact from that time to ours. So, there is no indication that they were forced together later on.

Moses didn't write the Pentateuch. The separate creation stories were cobbled together by King Omri in his efforts to reunite Israel and Judea.

Prove this? No, Moses, with the help from his scribes, wrote the 5 books of Moses. These scholars you like to use are full of crap.

Moses may be a literary device.. or an adaptation of the story of Sinuhe.. The Exodus didn't happen anymore than Noah's Ark.

These are wonderful morality tales.. teaching narratives.. They aren't history.
