Great Speech.

If you want to have the discussion about whether we should reduce our presense overseas or not get involved in Israel's problems, that's fine. Neither party is willing to have that discussion.

Fact is, we spend nearly a trillion on education on the Federal, State and Local level- far more than we do on the miltiary, and that doesn't include private expendatures.

We spend 274 billion a year on transportation projects at the state and local level alone. 320 billion on police and fire protection.

Government Spending in United States: Federal State Local 2011 - Charts Tables History

Government spending makes up about 6 Trillion in a 14 trillion dollar economy... So please do not get here and try to tell me that.

1) The GOvernment isn't spending enough money on X

or

2) That spending another 447 billion on top of that is going to improve much of anything.

This is tiresome too.

Entitlement spending on vets isn't scored as military spending. That is scored as entitlement spending. Take that away and lump it on military spending would be a huge deduction to the entitlement spending and a huge addition to military spending.

The military industrial complex in this country is vast. We are in some pile of shit war nearly every year.

And you're right..neither party seriously discusses this.

It's very very expensive.

I think the VA was included in the 1 trillion for the military... but to the point, there's a whole infrastructure involved. Providing schools for the families on bases, health care for dependents, etc... all really social program stuff that falls under DoD's purview because it is provided for members of the military.

You guys were the ones who insisted on ending the draft and making the military just like any other employer. Don't come back whining because that has a price tag on it.

excellent take on Obama's 'jobs' speech

Obama’s $447 billion reelection plan

What Americans heard last night was a $447 billion political plan, not an economic one. It’s purpose was to a) fire up the demoralized Democratic base and b) show independents that Obama is trying to do something – anything – to reduce unemployment, not just slash needed “investment” like those heartless, pro-austerity Republicans.

In a recent paper, Stanford University economist John Taylor simply looked at whether, as a result of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, consumers actually consumed and whether government actually spent in a way that produced real growth and jobs. Turns out, they didn’t:
Individuals and families largely saved the transfers and tax rebates. The federal government increased purchases, but by only an immaterial amount. State and local governments used the stimulus grants to reduce their net borrowing (largely by acquiring more financial assets) rather than to increase expenditures, and they shifted expenditures away from purchases toward transfers. Some argue that the economy would have been worse off without these stimulus packages, but the results do not support that view.
Just don’t expect it to do much for America’s sputtering economic recovery.

I know you guys want him to sit on his hands for the next 14 months while the rich still get incredibly richer, people lose their jobs and homes and the economy starts to lurch into what might be a double dip recession.

NewsFlash: That's not going to happen.

This man has skills.

He does?

Now, with the stipulation that I'm a Republican who has no use for Democrats, Obama has hardly shown much in the terms of skills. Compared to Bill Clinton, who could snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, could turn his enemies words against them, who could turn his own sleazy personal behavior into something that made him look symathetic, Obama's skills are actually rather poor.

Didn't personally like Clinton, but you can't take away that Clinton was very skilled at what he did.

Obama.... errr, not so much. Working on the "If he choked on a chickenbone tonight at dinner" theory, what would history say about this guy up to this point? THat he promoted a health care plan that will eventually be struck down by the courts? That he presided over the weakest economy since Herbert Hoover.

Come 2012..don't vote for Obama.

Simple as that.

Actually, I live in IL, so no matter how bad things get for Obama, he'll probably carry this state, for no other reason than Rahm will get out the Chicago Graveyard Vote.

(Sign on Chicago Masoleum- "Vote Democratic, we do!" )

I'm discussing in the larger theme. Forget why Republicans hate Obama. They hated Clinton, too.

But Obama will be remembered as the guy who brought the GOP back from the dead AND pushed it further to the right. And in the likely event he is thrown out of office, the GOP will have maybe a decade of continued influence.

Vince Cable condemns threat by US politicians over world economy | Mail Online
Mr Cable told the BBC’s Andrew Marr show: ‘The irony of the situation at the moment is that the biggest threat to the world financial system comes from a few Right-wing nutters in the American Congress rather than the Eurozone.’
He was dissing a select few, not all righties.

Get a fucking clue.

BTW... He's the fucking Business Secretary, NOT the Chancellor. The Chancellor is George Osborne.

That makes you a STUPID, deceitful, lying scumbag.
