Doctors Going Out of Business

My doctor retired early the day obama was reelected. What I have seen are doctors moving to concierge care. My friend's doctor went to concierge and joined House Call Doctors. Website myconciergemd.com. Payment is by the month and the doctor comes to your house or office. They don't take any insurance.

What if you paid for all your medical bills out-of-pocket? It is a new cash-only trend known as “direct pay.” Doctors promise to keep prices low by avoiding the insurance companies.

With four kids and high medical insurance deductibles, Maggie and Jared Sweedens worry about their medical expenses. A simple cold can lead to a lot of money out of their wallets.

"When one child gets sick, they're bound to all get sick. With high co-pays and high deductibles, it's tough," Maggie said.

The family recently started going to a direct pay doctor.

Dr. Ann Riggs just opened her practice in Platte City in October. Direct Medical Care is a cash only practice where insurance is not accepted.

"We are a great fit for those without insurance. We are a great fit with those with great insurance plans who have high deductibles,” Riggs said. “Their money can be maximized at our facility."

The price of a traditional doctor's visit is often negotiated by the doctor and insurance company. Riggs said cutting the insurance company out allows her to charge less.

Some patients prefer to bypass insurance provider with cash-only doctors

LL, you need to take off the glasses and realize that obamacare is unaffordable and that people can't be coerced. I hope these types of practices pop up all over the place.

:clap2:

This is madness. I really hope they repeal obamacare, and soon. I realize that damage has already been caused, and some of it may be irreversible, but we should get out now before the entire health care system collapses.

Got a letter from my orthopaedic surgeon, an old friend from high school. He is closing his practice. A local general practitioner placed ads in the local paper recently announcing that he is going to a cash only business plan. An acquaintance told me of two others that she is familiar with who have decided to quit. All make it very clear that Obamacare is the reason for their decisions.

Anybody else have similar stories from their neighborhoods?

Ive lost a GYN and an oncologist. My GP and our endocrinologist are no longer accepting new patients.

ALL say the reason is issues around obama care.

The op is a lie. Doctors love ObamaCare because it guarantees payment.

They finally don't have to chase down the worthless rw's who love reagan's socialist EMTALA.

Ins companies hate having to spend 80% on actual patient care but that's for another thread.

Keep the lies coming, chumps.

It is amazing! It seems like every USMB conservative personally knows several medical professionals who hate the ACA so much that they are going to stop doctoring. Absolutely uncanny.

Someone paying $400. A month in premiums, a high co pay and a $6,000 a year deductible is essentially uninsured. Ultimately what they have is astronomically high catastrophic coverage and then they have nothing if they can't come up with that six thou.

Yes! $1000 per year covers it all. Now those parents have nothing to worry about! They are protected against medical bankruptcy! Great plan.

You didn't read the article, did you?

Sure did.

You missed this then.

Riggs said any out-of-pocket expense can usually be submitted to your insurance company for credit toward your deductible

Keep as cheap a plan as you can in case of something big, submit to company for credit in case you need the insurance for something big, pay for the rest oop at a reduced cost. This is how insurance should work.

No Luddy it isn't. Maybe an isolated situation but it wasn't a falsehood. Which is why I asked about other incidents.

Sorry, sweetie. Docs and patients are running away and this trend will continue as long as the (un)aca remains as is. Hope 'n change!

I only let people call me sweetie if they are massaging my balls.

Some old farts are using ObamaCare as an excuse to pack up, but they were packing up anyways. A lot of them refused to computerize. It was the Bush administration which passed the laws that required computerizing, but the kooks blame it on Obama. Doctors can be 'tards too.
