God knows who they are. He's the one that gathered them to Israel:
Ezekiel 11:17 "Therefore say, 'Thus saith the Lord GOD: I will even gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel."
And this is the result, and who it affects:
Zech. 12:10 "I will pour out on the house of David AND on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of mercy and supplication, so that when they look on him whom they(<ancestors who said, "Let His blood be on us and our children".) have thrust through, they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and they will grieve for him as one grieves over a firstborn.
Whomever you think the inhabitants of Jerusalem are, that is who Jesus is returning to. You can call them whatever you like, but those are the people that Jesus will reside with., and ultimately where God will reside:
Rev.21:2-3 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God
And I heard a great voice out of Heaven, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them; and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them and be their God.
Our Bible is also the History of the Jews from beginning to end.
