Coca-Cola makes $10 billion per year from Food Stamps

Got it. Corn dogs, hot pockets and 80% burger can stay? Kool-aid banned? Fruit juices mostly sugar?

It's hard work to police it. We already have FDA allowing it. We have rules against it now. Sort of. It is on the shelf.

Oh, I'm with you. I wish for skinnier America too. Kids used to work farms or yards or play all day. Now they have to hide out eating Doritos watching Nutflix all day.
I shouldn’t take much to not allow the cards to soda, the checkouts already can split out SNAP from prepared foods, non foods etc.

You are right, I worked on a farm, I rode my bike all the time and I was a skinny guy, but I didn’t drink pop back then either, only after I got in my late 20s, the. I gained weight.

That comes from staying inside and eating.

Most people in America used to go outside most of the day back in the 60s and 70s.

Nobody had air-conditioning.
.

I vividly remember my life as a child -- outside all day weather permitting and RARELY getting sweets unless it was a special occasion or we earned the money to buy the junk.

I recall the early 90's, spending some time at my brother's house -- his son was obese and if he didn't get a snack between getting home from school and eating dinner, he'd FLIP OUT!

And we're not supposed to fat shame! I think it's time to shame the hell out of the obese, unless they have an actual excuse -- a couple of decades ago, I got talked into taking the SSRI's and gained about 75 pounds while doing so.

.

Comes out to around 60¢ a day per food stamp recipient for all Coca-Cola products including water and unsweetened drinks.... (45 million people on food stamps average)

And even if all $10 billion are spent on Coca-Cola sweet drinks, 60¢ is much less than 1 Coca-Cola sugary drink a day...

They seem to be managing their sugary drinks fairly well....?

(of course... we haven't seen the numbers on PepsiCo)
So why is it that poor people on SNAP have significantly higher rates in obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease?

Less exercise? More carbs in cheaper foods like bread, rice, pasta, ramen noodles etc.... Carbs are the equivalent of sugar....in the end.

Plus genetics is part of it....

The Nanny State, eh?

Y'all were so upset when Michelle Obama wanted school lunches in your kid's schools to be healthy....remember that?

Is this an;

Okay for me
But not for thee....

Kinda thing?

I suspect the figure is overblown for clicks but why the heck are sugary drinks even allowed to be purchased with EBT/SNAP?

And then taxpayer funded Medicaid pays to fix the poor's cavities.....We pay the "poor" to get fat, then pay even more to give them free medical care for their chosen obesity.

Food stamps should change from default accept to default deny. It shouldn't be "you can buy anything except XYX." Move to "You can't buy anything except ABC. Then make food manufacturers apply to qualify their products.

Everything the .gov touches turns out to be a grift. :eusa_wall:

that's a fake number.

I agree in principle that this is still too much, but it's closer to $6 billion and that number includes everything sweetened from apple juice on up.

Coca Cola didn't get $10 billion dollars.

That was gonna be my next point, than you for being so timely.

That program was infested with Vegan/PETA bullshit and overriding federal busibodying, that resulted in lunches kids wouldn't eat.

I'm just about as Democratic as you can get and my father raises cattle.

I get organically raised beef at cost. Do you think I don't eat the hell outta it?

So the standards push grains, vegetables and nuts and pretty much sideline meat, chicken and fish.

goes with skim milk (fake milk).

Nah, nothing about the vegan nuts in there about that stuff.
