SNAP bans on soda, candy and other foods take effect in five states Jan. 1- Thanks RFK!

I just think the welfare state does enough damage as it is. Using it as an excuse to control people just adds to the insidious nature of state dependency.

You're only virtue signaling.
No, I support restricting certain foods being unavailable for purchase with my tax dollars to people who sit on ass all day, and contribute literally NOTHING to society.

Because you’re virtue signaling.

Starting Thursday, Americans in five states who get government help paying for groceries will see new restrictions on soda, candy and other foods they can buy with those benefits.

Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah and West Virginia are the first of at least 18 states to enact waivers prohibiting the purchase of certain foods through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.

It’s part of a push by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to urge states to strip foods regarded as unhealthy from the $100 billion federal program -- long known as food stamps -- that serves 42 million Americans.

This is something Democrats and Republicans can agree on. This is great work by Robert F Kennedy Junior. We have an obesity problem in America one of if not the most obese country in the developed world. And obesity affects poor people more than other groups.

SNAP is a pro American and yes, a pro Christian program. Helping poor people this is just the way forward. Especially children of drug addicted parents. But SNAP recipients should be eating healthy food with lots of protein and nutrients. Fresh food, fresh fruit, milk. Beef and chicken.

There’s still a lot of work to do wrt making America healthy again. Like addressing the fast food industry. But This is a step in the right direction.

It is pretty much an exercise in futility however. Using SNAP money for just healthy stuff frees up the SNAP beneficiaries other cash to use to buy cookies, candy, soft drinks or whatever.

The government should not be giving out cash at all. Those eligible for SNAP should go to government centers to pick up bags of rice, beans, powdered milk, baby formula, dietary supplements for fruit and vegetables. I think most 'poor' would often be so uninterested in such healthy government food that the taxpayer would be save billions while nobody would need to go hungry.

SNAP users can buy fast food at KFC or McD's or just about anywhere. No one asks if the meal contains a Pepsi
It's not that simple.

Generally, SNAP doesn't pay for hot, prepared fast food, but in some states, eligible individuals (elderly, disabled, homeless) can use their benefits at authorized restaurants through the Restaurant Meals Program (RMP). This program allows purchases at select fast-food chains like McDonald's, Subway, and Wendy's in participating states (like CA, AZ, MI, MD, RI, IL) for those who can't cook for themselves. Standard SNAP rules prohibit buying hot meals or non-food items.
Who Qualifies for the RMP?
Your household must be eligible for SNAP, and you must meet specific criteria, usually being:
  • An older adult (over 60)
  • A person with a disability
  • Experiencing homelessness
Participating States & Restaurants

Tax dollars should not be used to buy soda and candy for poor people.

How the **** is that controversial?

Lefties make everything political.

Here is a thought…if you want to consume candy and soda…buy it yourself…or shoplift it.
Leftists get upset when actions are taken to incentivize government-dependent types to earn money and move beyond dependency. That is why they had a meltdown when Trump wanted able-bodied adults on food stamps - those without young children - to work at least 20 hours a week to keep the free food coming.

Hey! Remember when progressives were talking about urban design that promoted walk ability as a way to increase physical exercise and improve public health through government planning?

That was turned into an absolutely insane conspiracy amongst the right wing lunatics.

If you actually read the article, the problem was a bunch of TicTok'ers in the UK and Canada that were having a problem with a plan being pushed during the Covid pandemic and that dealt more with the Global Economic Forum, restricting the use of automobiles in otherwise 'car centric' cities, and reducing carbon emissions.

Progressive Liberals just cannot help but lie about their intents and motivations and then wonder why no one trusts them, or a bunch of people on Tic Tok come up with conspiracy theories.

That's not the plan for Edmonton you crazy conspiracy theorist, it's the plan for Canterbury. :auiqs.jpg:

It was equally funny how the conspiracy theorists were distorting the truth about the plan, as it was how their opposition was distorting the truth about the true initiatives of the plan. Nice virtue signaling though.

That is a straight up lie...

"Although evidence for a genetic link with obesity is strong, the contribution of genes to obesity is considered small. Environmental factors such as diet and physical activity are believed to be a bigger influence on obesity than genetics alone."
Nope. If your parent had weight issues, you will as well.

What you arguing here is an 'all or nothing' fallacy...

Either something is bad enough to ban or it isn't. Otherwise, this is just more "Let's **** with poor people to feel better about ourselves."

Standing in line, marking time
Waiting for the welfare dime
'Cause they can't buy a job
A man in a silk suit hurries by
As he catches the poor old ladies' eyes
Just for fun he says, "Get a job"

Straw arguments, and stupid statements not based in fact with factual citation are dismissed from you.
Just being blunt, you guys try to gut these programs until everyone needs them because of your economic policies.

Look how fast Trump was funding crap during Covid.

That’s one thing I liked Michelle Obama for. And one thing that her and RFK Junior both agree on. But I’m a centrist in these cases. But there are left-wingers who hate RFK Junior and they won’t even applaud him when he wants healthier options for poor people.
I don't trust RFK. Trump should have selected Dr Shiva Ayyadurai to be the food czar. That I think RFK is working for Big corporations, that they manipulated Trump's mind into placing RFK into that position. Like RFK's A-team came out with data that every candy has arsenic in it except for Hershey's candies and organic candies. That they claim Hershey's has no arsenic in it chocolate candies, but all non-organic sugarcane is being sprayed with a drying agent that's called glyphosate which it has arsenic in its chemical compound which none of the mainstream media will not report because their sponsors are the culprits that are making these arsenic chemicals. And Hershey's don't use organic sugar.
Arsenic is destroying minds, especially children. That it's lower children IQ levels down to completely zero. That is why so many are unhealthy and mentally ill. And small amounts of arsenic accelerate the aging process and severely damages the liver.

And remember, the infamous Marjorie Taylor Green was a representative of the state of Georgia That's trying to worm her way to the presidency to protect Big corporations. And Big corporations is going to make sure she get that position in 2028

And RFK isn't banning this chemical that is in almost every food product that needs to be stored in packages like bottles and cans or plastic containers. That it's link to obesity. That's why third world nation like Nigeria has an obesity problem while starving. And why some people who are obese is malnutrition which means that it isn't food that is making them obese.
But none on the mainstream media will not even report it or if they do, they'll claim that it's not a complete study was done on BPA

You act like SNAP is a reward. Or something earned or owed. When I grew up, fast food was secondary. Eating meals in the hoe was primary. Now it seems its reversed with fast food much more expensive. We have many many decades of this proof.
