Zone1 Christian Wives and Submission

Your wife or a significant other is supposed to be the wind in your sails, not the anchor chain around your neck

If she's an anchor chain around your neck and drowning you I don't know what to tell you.

Lots of Proverbs verses about that, some of them pretty funny, like it's better to sit on the corner of your roof than live with a nagging wife.....

I'll defer to nature here........I've a boar around 350lbs w/tusks that'd rip one apart.....he's a fairly docile sort .......one can pet him, scritch his ears......mostly lays around all day while his harem of sows tend to their piglets

Introduce a threat (bear, coydog, etc) and the boar immediately springs into protection mode, positioning himself between the sows and the threat

Methinks you'll find this 'programming' (for lack of better term) inherent to all God's creations.....each simply doing their job(s).......

This exactly. And that's what Peter means by women being the "weaker vessel". Another interpretation could be the more fragile vessel.

The Proverbs 31 woman is a symbolic representation of the Bride of Christ....not a normal woman. Because a normal woman would have died from exhaustion.
No. Because I've met wives that lived out Proverbs 31, and they were not dead.

Let's talk about marital submission of Christian wives, a hot button topic .This passage from Ephesians is pertinent, followed by a verse in 1 Peter. Please keep reading after the verses for commentary:

Ephesians 22-25

"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. So as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her...."

And then in Ephesians 22:33

"However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband."

1 Peter 3:7

Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

A Christian wife's job is to respect the husband as yes, boss. A GOOD boss doesn't 'boss' you around because he can. The best bosses realize your value and want to optimize it. Moreover, the best bosses trust you to do your job and seek to help you do it to the best of your ability.

A Christian husband's role is to love his wife so much he would lay down his life for her, as Christ loved the church. How seriously does God take a husband's job? Well, if he's not living with his wife in understanding, God won't even hear his prayers. And this is for believers!

To wrap up, a Christian wife doesn't have to stay home, have babies, bake sourdough, grow her hair long, wear only skirts, have no opinions, refrain from voting or participating in the community, or any other thing because she is submitted. She and her husband, seeking Biblical wisdom, gets to decide how he feels respected and she feels loved.

Questions welcome!

Well Hypatia415 you've been remarking on what dunderhead pastors have to say about this since you got here....nothing on this, the Word of God?

Firstly, neither Ephesians nor I Peter are the "Word of God" both are epistles.

Secondly there is virtual consensus that Ephesians is pseudepigraphical and that I Peter is definitely pseudepigraphical.

This is not about what you think about the Bible; we already know. This is the ultimate text of authority for Christians, not what some dunderheaded pastor says somewhere.

Address the texts. What's your problem?

(BTW, would love to play the "this is what some imams say about women" game with Islam, but you must know how laughably that would stack up. Right?)

It is not about what I think it is about academic expertise assessing these texts.

And it is from two unknown authors.

Listen. If we are discussing Alice in Wonderland, we don't start at the point of "Yes but it's not true". Right? I don't care if you think it's valid or true or not. This is the primary text of Christianity. And this is what it says.

You came here from whatever godforsaken, boiling backwater in Europe to make a case against Christians using whatever some obscure pastor said. Now, read what the foundational literature says and go from there, OR ELSE show your lack of cards AGAIN

You are entitled to your beliefs but I am simply pointing out the academic position concerning those two texts.

Really? I would have thought that the words ascribed to Jesus of Nazareth in the four canonical gospels constituted the "primary text" for Christianity.

I remind you again that USMB is not a Christian website.

Well?

Why did you obsess about what obscure pastors say yet you refuse to address what the Bible says?

If I start a thread on what obscure imams say about anything--and believe me, it would curl your toes--you could not stop yourself from jumping in to dismiss their ideas and instead cite the Koran. Am I right?

My use of those RW fundamentalist evangelicals is to illustrate that among so called Christians there exist repressive attitudes, particularly towards women and gays, that have much common with various practises within Islam that are so reviled by you and others.

ETA Something to think about. Just imagine if individuals like Steven Anderson, Dillon Awes, Doug Wilson, and Dale Partridge were the controlling religious and political leaders in the USA.

Delete your signature, because this post is laughable.

You went looking for a needle in a haystack. Can you find needles in our haystacks? Of course. You come out of the haystack gloating about a few needles you found....

MEANWHILE

In your own backyard

Are entire stacks of nothing but shrapnel and bombs.

I wish you were generating original thinking here, but no. I've read it over and over and over and over and over and over and over

See the amendment I made to that post.

I don't have to imagine. It's like what would happen in a lot of Islamic nations. Hello? Soon to be your own.

But more comfortable to come digging around our haystacks, yes? Takes the mind off things.
