The Problem: Population of France in 1780 is 28 million. Gross product is equivalent to 5 billion livers (currency) per year. An average person needs 2,000 livers per year for comfortable life. The State needs 1 billion livers per year for defense, administration, and growth of Arts and Sciences. What is the best way to divide the gross product?
Devil's solution: In pre-Industrial Society, resources could be obtained only by expropriation. The solution is in Table 3. Ensure comfortable lifestyle for 540 thousand Nobles, and somewhat lower living standards for about 2.16 million Bourgeois and their family. Expropriate labor of over 15 million agricultural laborers, small farmers, and their families. These people will live in abject poverty, but they will provide wealth for Nobles, Bourgeois, and the State. This income will enable growth of Arts and Sciences and produce masterpieces of architecture.
Beyond devil: French Serfs had to rent land and pay high rates, but they were not slaves. This form of exploitation can be justified by Devil's Advocate.
In Russia and East Europe, serfs were personally bound to their owners and also subject to physical abuse. That was cruelty beyond necessity. In America, slaves were also owned and cruelty was the norm. American Slaves had work obligations 2.5 times as high as Russian Serfs. That was evil.
