I have a hope and a suggestion for Chris Christie in his Presidential campaign and I make these comments with the utmost respect for him. The abundance of political prognosticators in the media who say Christie has practically no chance to get the Republican nomination are absolutely correct and that is conceding that amongst all the current Republican candidates if they were elected President Christie would clearly be the best President for the entirety of the American people. The reasons why Christie has no real chance are that Trump has reached idol status amongst a large part of the Republican primary base (it is beyond logic it is like Marine Le Pen popularity in France these leaders appeal to some nationalistic streak amongst the electorate and the politician's flaws are ignored), a large part of the Republican electorates beliefs in the correct policy positions for our nation is right wing ideology and it does not matter that if implemented the results would leave massive numbers of Americans in real hardship and Christie isn't on board to go as far as this large bloc of Republicans want, the incredibly powerful wealthy and pro-big business apparatus that sometimes works visibly (in one manifestation as the Club For Growth) but always is working behind the scenes will never get behind a Christie primary campaign because Christie is a decent guy he doesn't believe in throwing people out of the boat these people's vision for Ameria is a competition vision where a lot of people in America lose so they and their allies can win and lastly Christie because he believes in working across the political aisle to pass legislation which specifically means to compromise which by the way is the duty of a member of legislature in a Democracy is viewed as a Rino by many Republican primary voters and this tag means sell-out and is a scarlet letter in Republican primary elections! So my suggestion to Christie is don't pander to these misguided Republican primary voters, don't be a politician that sells out his principles in a calculating manner to get votes from this misguided base stand up for what is right from A to Z, campaign as an optimally good Republican candidate should and campaign for what is best for the nation, advocate for the nation to take the best course on every issue!

This is a sprinkling of what Christie should be campaigning on. A good Republican is fiscally conservative but considers the whole picture. Todays crop of Republicans keeps saying America doesn't have a taxing problem it has a spending problem well the truth of the matter is that although America has to stop a lot of wasteful spending the financial problem America has is it has a national dept problem and even though technically both parties are responsible for today's level the Republican Party is solely responsible for it rising to an unfixable level, the cuts necessary to fix it would be too painful it would entail the Federal government shirking its duty to provide fundamental care for its people! The reason why the Republican Party is responsible for it growing to an unfixable level because back in 2017 when the Republican Party passed the Trump tax cuts it proved itself to be an untrustworthy partner to the Democrat Party in solving the nation's national debt problem this tax legislation grew the national debt by one and a half trillion dollars (the CBO score used funny math like giving too much credit for eliminating the ACA insurance mandate) and rightfully the Democrat Party took from this the lesson why sacrifice greatly to reduce the national debt when the Republicans when they get power in Washington are going to grow the national debt to cut taxes; the Republicans threw away America's last hope of fixing the serious national debt problem by putting the trajectory of the national debt beyond a Grand Bargain solution, a solution of realistic spending cuts and tax increases to stop the growth of the national debt. Christie should be campaigning on the platform that fixing the national debt is not possible a good President should just manage the growth of the national debt that is not increase the trajectory growth of the national debt and when opportunity presents itself reduce the country's yearly budget deficits.

Christie should further campaign that no President should raise the Personal Income Tax rates they are high enough but other minor tax changes are needed to raise revenue for the Federal government to do its duty toward its people. The Federal Government needs to help people pay for child care the current financial burden on American families in this area is just too great, the Federal government needs to dramatically increase the child care tax credit. The Federal Government needs to spend money to help Americans buy homes the Federal Government is duty bound to help American families accumulate wealth so they can have stable decent standard of living lives and the best way to do this is the historic way it has been done bring about high rates of home ownership such rates are falling and Uncle Sam needs to step in and reverse this trend. Do this by allowing families struggling to come up with a down payment to divert up to seven thousand dollars a year of earned income into a home purchase fund up to a diversion total of thirty-five thousand dollars and it would be diverted from federal wage and income taxes.; further lower the tax rate to fifteen percent on earnings for builders and developers that sell homes for these entry level buyers like for homes with a sale price of $400,000.00 or less and the lower rate is just for this part of these builders/developers business! Christie should be campaigning that the President of China, Xi Jinping, has clear ambitions to expand the Chinese Empire in the North Pacific Ocean with Taiwan, the Philippines and Japan being the territorial goals with Taiwan the first objective. So America must help Taiwan, Taiwan alone cannot defend against a superpower like China, America must create a yearly foreign military aid budget in the many billions of dollars for Taiwan. America needs to give and sell Taiwan anti-ship systems and anti-air systems along with ammunition en masse to counter a Chinese invasion America won't be able to defend Taiwan from aircraft carriers and bases in the Philippines and Japan, China's is a technically advanced country at the highest level their defenses will be too good similarly Taiwan will need to agree to dramatically increase the size of its military during President Chi's life plus ten years!

Christie should be campaigning that the Federal Government needs to raise some revenue to take care of these critical needs. Specifically, he should campaign to raise the capital gains tax rate from twenty percent to twenty-five percent for people making over $500,000.00 per year when one considers that individuals making over $90,000 pay an income tax rate of twenty-four percent why should a wealthy American pay a lower rate on their income just because it is from the sale of stocks, bonds or real estate it is not like those assets are real risky! Christie should campaign to raise the U.S. corporate income tax rate from twenty-one percent to twenty-five percent a very internationally competitive rate and one the majority of Republican politicians supported prior to Donald J. (It has to the biggest ever) Trump came on to the scene. Christie should campaign on closing many of the bad loopholes in the tax code. There is this tax called the GILTI tax (Global intangible low tax income) it is supposed to be a tax on foreign income that corporations get for their intellectual property but it is calculated like a broad foreign income tax where exclusions on the taxed income amount to ten percent of the value of the foreign assets. If America wants to go to a territorial tax system which it should it shouldn't tax foreign income but foreign earnings that go to licensing fees for patents, copyrights and the like aren't really foreign earnings the corporation is headquartered in the U.S. so its intellectual property is owned in the U.S. so it fairly called domestically earned income. This foreign income stream should be taxed at fifteen percent lower than the 21% corporate income tax rate to lower the incentive for U.S. corporations to move the intellectual property to a foreign subsidiary and of course give the corporation credit for any foreign tax paid on that income stream. Further, the tax code should have a fifteen percent minimum tax on foreign earnings to comply with the international agreement and to further the legitimate purpose of this agreement to reduce the incentive for corporations to go tax haven shopping for their operations (Republican establishment Dead Wrong about the Secretary Yellin international efforts)! Further, Christie should campaign against this loophole in the tax code where certain real estate investors can postpone paying taxes on their profits from the sale of real estate if they roll over the earnings into buying a real estate asset(s), there is no good reason these investors should get this break!

Since Christie's chances for winning the Republican nomination are like the chances of a person picking the final four bracket in a pool in an NCAA men's basketball tournament why doesn't he try to lead the Republican Party to adopt a platform which will move the country forward and not be so extremely divisive. Especially so because the country is on a path to failing as a country I give it around ten more Presidential elections once a Democrat President signs off on the Senate doing away with the sixty vote threshold to end a filibuster and bring a bill to a final vote the country will see the parties pass their polarizing and extreme ideology into law, this will bring wide pendulum moves and cause fissures in our country that will move a group of states to leave the union of the USA. Our only hope is to get our government doing what is good and working, Chris you're up!

LOL. Are you trying to say that he should run in the Republican primaries as a Democrat?

The USA tried the whole Everybody Owns A House thing to rescue us from the Dot Com Bust. The results was the Housing Bubble which, when it burst, sent us into the worst recession since the Great Depression. Can humans, just once, learn something from history?

Please keep your threads short and to the point. I won't read a long winded manifesto.

Are you related to Tolstoy?

It sounds like the OP wants us to compromise, meet the democrats halfway?

Sorry mr op, the democrats are wrong, you can not compromise what is right, and meet someone who is wrong halfway.

Democrats, "we will increase spending $100 trillion"
Republicans, "we will meet you halfway, $50 trillion"

I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions regarding Chris Christie's presidential campaign. While it's true that Christie may face challenges within the Republican primary, I encourage focusing on constructive ways to address the nation's issues. Here are a few highlights from your suggestions:

  1. National Debt: Christie should emphasize the need for responsible fiscal policies, acknowledging that both parties share responsibility for the growing national debt. He can advocate for managing the debt's growth, reducing yearly budget deficits, and exploring realistic spending cuts and tax increases.
  2. Tax Reform: Campaigning for minor tax changes that benefit American families could be a priority. This includes increasing the child care tax credit, aiding families in home purchases, and providing necessary support for struggling families.
  3. Foreign Policy: Christie should emphasize the importance of the U.S. supporting Taiwan in countering China's ambitions. Suggesting increased foreign military aid and collaboration would be significant.
  4. Tax Code: Christie could advocate for fair tax policies, such as raising the capital gains tax rate for high-income earners and closing loopholes, like the GILTI tax, to ensure a more equitable system.
Lastly, given the current political landscape, it might be worthwhile for Christie to promote unity and work toward a less divisive approach to governance. Encouraging productive dialogue and compromise can help address the nation's challenges effectively.

Let us remember that constructive and open-minded discussions are essential for progress and finding common ground. Together, we can aim for a better future for our country.

Best regards, Waqar
Christie could start,, by stop being a liar

/——/ democRATs never compromise on their agenda. They just expect Republicans to cave which they do most of the time.

If any candidate, from either party, offered a commonsense platform for America they couldn't be elected dogcatcher.

Are Chris Christie's poll results even in positive numbers?

Dude couldn't get elected dog catcher.

This thread is a pipe dream.

Sorry JimofPennsylvan ...I enjoy your posts...but much of New England is completely out of touch with the rest of America. Too used to big government.
