Republican Tyranny: Michigan is the proof of concept.

Well it seems that the autocratic plans for the country are being proven out in Michigan

Kaz is short for my home town, Kalamazoo, Michigan. I also have a Michigan MBA and was recruited heavily by Ford and other local companies, but decided to go to New York instead.

People like you have run the place since the workers realized they could vote themselves out of jobs because they ran companies into the ground with ridiculous rules or to other States to survive. Michigan is a workers paradise, with no jobs. And you continue working hard to keep it that way, Comrade. What Michigan really is would be a perfect example of what you are trying to do to the rest of the country and a reason they should ignore you.

Hey Dumbass. Michigan is coming back. Only problem is, the jobs are comig back at $15 hr and not $35 hr.

Unions faught and earned those high wages. And good healthcare. Instead of being a hater, you should have realized that they brought your wages up too. Without them you'd be working 80 hour weeks, not getting overtime, days off, sick leave, or any healthcare. Unions got all these things for you. Non union companies had to stay competitive. That is why the right is trying to kill off unions. And with them the middle class.

They didn't just send union jobs overseas jackass. We all make too much. Even you.

I have never belonged to a union in my life. And I have never been paid $35 an hour except when was self-employed and I didn't need a union then either. What kind jobs were these people make $35.00 an hour. And just how much do you think the union bosses made? If the majority of these people are factory workers with barely a high school education, $15.00 an hour is too much!!

I guess it's true. Economics trumps ideology. The economy could not sustain those wonderful 35/hr jobs, so they went away.

Maybe more time should have been spent figuring out how to preserve conditions to maintain those jobs then looking to protect them when conditions that caused their support to go away were championed.

Unsustainable income always goes away after a time.

One reason companies were run into the ground might have something to do with all those MBA's on the payroll. It might pay to let a few workers into the boardroom or the management meetings, don't ya think?

Then don't cry when the economy doesn't ever go back to what it was. Because back then, the workers got to share the profits. Today the profits go to the ceo and top 1% shareholders. They can't spend enough. So your going to have to do better than $15 hr cheapass hater.

What do you do for a living? I am sure you are overpaid.

I'm a medical transcriptionist working Quality Control. $16.00 an hour. Lots of responsibility. No overtime. Piss poor benefits.

However, I have worked for physician's offices in the past that DID pay profit sharing and stock options and generous bonuses at Christmas time. My husband was making $16 an hour when he retired from the government in 1996. For the same work on the outside he had to start at minimum wage. Do a little research and find out what the poorest cities in America are and then see which party is in power. You might be surprised to learn the majority of them are run by Democrats.

It wasn't unsustainable income you fool. Instead of 1000 people making $35 hr, they now all make $15 and the CEO gets the profits. That is why the gap between the rich and poor has gotten too wide. Do you understand any of this?

Because those jobs aren't union anymore, they don't pay shit. Welcome to the GOP's vision for America. Lots of low paying jobs.

And those jobs wouldn't have gone overseas if they weren't allowed. Why did we let them? Why didn't we tax or tariff them? Instead the GOP passed tax breaks FOR companies to help them move. Or deregulated so American companies now have to compete with the chinese. I could go on and on, but it'd probably be a waste on you. Correct? Do you get anything I'm saying? You are dead wrong that workers aren't worth $35 hr. Jealous? Join a union. Don't kill them. You'll be next.

American middle class workers are not overpaid. CEO's are.

You're a hoot. You just said what I said in my post as to what happened to Michigan. You won. Well, then the companies left. You're saying if they come back, they'll get the same treatment as last time. Too funny...

Management was certainly part of the problem that got the auto industry in the mess. But the government rules on unions has made recovery impossible. And it drove a lot of companies in other industries under or out as well.

Right. Then it's all theft? The money and sales are still rolling in at the same rate, but now, it just goes to CEO's pockets?

yeah..... not so much.

I'm talking about states, not cities. I know for a fact that southerners make less than we do here up north.

Detroit might be one of the poorest cities, or Flint, but they are surrounded by filthy rich cities and counties. Michigan has great wealth and overall our wages are higher than the south per capita.

I own my own businesses. A design firm and a restaurant.

What maximizes employee wages over the long run are free markets. Your view that managers can do whatever they want and employees are their victims is ridiculous. Employers compete for workers, just like workers compete for jobs. A free market maximizes the benefit for both. Your loser mentality only maximizes losers.

Yes! Now you get it. The rich have never been richer and our wages have stalled. We make the same as we did 30 years ago because for 30 years you have been attacking unions. Their numbers went from 35% to 12% of the workforce. And as their numbers declined, so did our wages. But Corporations are breaking profit records. Healthcare, Oil Companies, Defense companies. And their CEO's are making 100 times what they did 10 yeas ago. That means you can't have a raise. Get it???

Which by the way, plays into what hurt the American auto industry and helped crash the economy. Remember when gas went up to over $4 a gallon on Bush's watch? That really hurt the American economy, especially the auto industries truck sales.

And if you guys really believe in free markets without government intervention, stop giving Toyota and Honda tax breaks to manufacture down south. Its hard to compete with that socialism. Government intervention in the market. Helping foreign auto companies bankrupt the US Auto companies. And then we overtook them! Obama did that shit!!!

I vote GOP because I believe in independence and everyone working and contributing and being free to choose. I don't want government handouts or any control by the government above what we already have. I believe everyone should be the best that can be. I could have finished college and become a supervisor or something, it was not my choice. We live the simple life. and that's how we like it. we are free. I drive a big car, eat meat, cut down trees, I don't go green and I don't believe man has anything to do with climate change, warm or cold. I don't make excuses for criminals, I believe in the death penalty. Anything else you want to know? I believe in carrying guns. I think child molesters should have a "first strike, you're out." Basically I am for everything the Democrats are against. I am not jealous of anybody who makes more than I do, they have more responsibility and likely more education. I don't WANT any more responsibility. We do all the things we want. And besides, the best things in life are free anyhow. we have our health and even though we are in our 60s we don't act it by any means.

Tell you what. why don't you get off your whining, hand-wringing ass and start your OWN business. See what it's all about. You'd soon be singing a different tune, I'm sure. You could be the perfect CEO of your own company, pay big wages, great benefits, everything. You could run any way you please. Maybe.

Maybe it doesn't work that way at a little company like yours but it does in multinational corporations. Nothing loser about me or wanting the top 1% to share with the rest of us.

This demonstrates the true liberal/conservative divide. Conservatives believe what business does is business's business, and government should keep its nose out of it, even when it leads to centuries of Tiny Tims and terrified-of-job-loss employees. As the Wall Street Journal noted in 1997, Alan Greenspan sees one of his main jobs as being to maintain a high enough level of "worker insecurity" that employees won't demand pay raises and benefits increases, thus provoking "wage inflation." ("CEO inflation" is fine with the cons.)

I was thinking instead of unionizing the people at my work. Lot of liberals that agree with me there.

Toyota and Honda should not get tax breaks. They should fire all their employees and go back where they came from.

Then start your own business!!!!! Apply for a CEO job. Get off your ass and change your life. the opportunities are endless, limited only by your imagination. Stop blaming others and looking to the government to fix you. because it never will, I don't care who is in office. You are living in the wrong country if you expect cradle to grave care. You could: buy a franchise of some kind. Open up a beauty shop, start a housecleaning business, anything. The possibilies are endless. Be your own boss.

I tried to re read your bullshit and I can't. You say you don't want handouts? So are you saying you don't want safety nets?

Don't answer. You are the worst type of Republican. Low information brainwashed socially conservative sucker.

And yes you are jealous of people that make more than you. You hate unions, right? Jealous ignorant assholes!!!!
