^They cheated it with mail-in voting. That's what the math says.

Outside of the regular nut-jobs who take matters into their own hands, you won’t see any violence because of this.
True, this particular gerrymandering isn't likely to result in much violence but I was speaking more long-term about the direction things are going politically. If it ever gets to a one-party rule then there's a lotta people who in reality won't be represented and they ain't gonna like it. There's no doubt in my mind about that or that either side could be violent.

The bigger question is whether or not we will ever start paying attention again. The answer is no.
Maybe, but maybe not if things get really bad.

We desperately need to expan congress to get that figure down to 200,000 at least. There will still be favoritism but the representatives will be much easier to unseat than they are now.
Again, maybe and maybe not. Not much difference between a 220 -215 vote in the House than 520-515. We will still see the same gerrymandering back and forth and some voting irregularities going on. Don't start with there's no proof, cases like that are very hard to prove given the standards for rules of evidence.

I think the benefit is the day-to-day interaction with the lawmakers. When you get listened to, you’re more likely to continue speaking--even if you’re not always on the winning side.

Not seeing how repealing the 17th Amendment changes anything. In fact, it could make things worse.
Then the state legislatures have a say in federal spending and policy...The Senators are more closely controlled by the states, because the legislatures could recall them at any time for being azzholes like Thune & McTurtle.

OK, but most states are already controlled by the Left or Right and that includes the legislatures. To me that means senators are going to pretty much vote the way do now - party line cuz the party controls the legislature. We wouldn't see any independents or mavericks, people that would cross party lines.

Federal Senators cannot be "recalled" by the State. There are only 3 methods for early removal of a federal Senator:
  • Death,
  • Resignation,
  • Expulsion by the Senate

The "mavericks" have almost exclusively broke to the left...Fetterman is the only counter-example.

You seriously think that peckerheads like Thune, Lady Lindsey, and McTurtle would spend decades in office pissing off their constituents if the could be recalled any time or de-jobbed at the end of their terms?

They could if we repealed the 17th Amendment...They'd then be officers of the State, and not federally elected.

The states can do anything they damned well please with their officials.

Which explains why the 17th was enacted in the first place--to muzzle the States and insulate the Senate from their, (the States), perceived capriciousness.

I dunno. They keep getting elected, so maybe they ain't pissing off that many constituents. These guys survive primaries and are still around by consent of their state voters, which maybe isn't a bad thing. Repeal the 17th and now it ain't the voters in charge, it's the state majority party that controls the senators. Not sure I like that.
