Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) vowed legal action Thursday after Tennessee passed a new House map that carves up his majority-Black congressional district in an effort to flip his seat red in November.

Cohen, the lone Democrat in Tennessee’s nine-member House delegation, called the new map “shameful” and criticized Republicans for heeding President Trump’s call to pursue mid-decade redistricting ahead of the midterm elections.

“And just like that, the TN GOP voted to enforce a racial gerrymander of Memphis and strip our city of effective representation for decades,” Cohen wrote in a post on the social platform X.

The new map splits Cohen’s Memphis-based 9th Congressional District — the state’s only majority-Black congressional district — into three districts and further divides Nashville into five.

The Tennessee House and Senate approved the new map earlier Thursday after first voting to repeal the state’s 56-year prohibition on mid-decade redistricting, a necessary step before lawmakers could move forward with the proposal.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed into law the new map and other related bills later Thursday.

Huh, I guess the whirlwind is being reaped.

My bet is Cohen did not have any problem with Spanberger's gerrymander of Virginia.

Cohen obviously did not read or understand the SCOTUS ruling because he is an illiterate Democrat.

I don't how he expects inferior courts to help him.

The clown is gonna have to woof down chicken legs on his own time instead of ours.

So the "white" guy who represents the "black" district is calling RACISM because a black Republican woman is going to take his seat? You gotta love it! LOL

Maybe he should call Spanberger and complain.

I'm opposed to gerrymandering and would like to see the Tennessee map overturned (it won't be). A fair map would have Memphis in one district and Nashville in its own, netting a 7-2 R to D result, however, the argument being made by the NAACP illustrates the intentional gaslighting by these people. The majority black district in Memphis is represented by an old white Jewish man. His Republican opponent happens to be a black female Republican, who will likely go on to win that seat under the new map. Tennessee would be gaining a black representative in Congress, but it's never been about electing blacks. It's all about electing Democrats. These people are frauds

I'm assuming the guy is black and, if so, I think the Supreme Court has already ruled on that issue.

Gerrymandering has backfired on the Dems even worse than their failed assassination attempts against President Trump.

15th post
Maybe it will again.
Not sure what that means. The SC has already blasted lefties for continuing lawsuits on things they have already ruled on. Maybe you're talking about in the far future when the makeup of the court could be different. I do find it rather funny though that the left don't like the SC changing it's own past precedents while, at the same time, the left also believe that as Americans' thinking evolves then precedents should be overturned.

And the President for doing the same thing. This is all up in the air and not set in stone.
