Zone1 Why is it so tough to believe in God?

Sure it is. Phobias are a prime example: There is evidence most of mankind can make it through the day despite a phobia that haunts one individual and has them taking drastic steps to avoid whatever it is they fear. People must have faith they can face their fears, that their way of living and their choices brings the best results for whatever they are seeking.

Have you looked at the most recent evidence found within the Shroud of Turin? Many have, and that evidence does not have many rethinking his/her position.
People must have faith they can face their fears, that their way of living and their choices brings the best results for whatever they are seeking.

Actual evidence notwithstanding.

Ok.

What are your thoughts about subjective evidence? For example, if someone tells you they have a headache, do you dismiss their assessment due to lack of evidence?
I think I save my cynicism for when they tell me the voices in their head stopped the headache.

Case in point
Until you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, SATAN, the god of this world, owns you. You are REDEEMED by the blood of Christ. If you have not accepted that, you are a creation of God, but certainly not His child

Because to believe you must have faith...

And faith is very difficult thing to have.

Why is it so tough to believe in God?

The answer is amazingly simple:
Because there is no actual, concrete proof that God exists. Two people can look at the same thing--- one might see evidence of God's handiwork, but the other might see nothing but random events.

So it all comes down to faith, inspiration and insight. Faith is something given, not something achieved. Many people in their entire lives will not find their faith in God because Faith is something God hands out to people who are closer to seeing the truth. Maybe the faith will help them the rest of the way. People simply not ready for God are left to their own designs for perhaps their next lifetime; for them, faith in God is pure fantasy.

The rest is inspiration and insight, again, meted out by God based on where a person is and their actions in this life as well as past deeds. Through inspiration and insight, one receives direct evidence, and usually, most people receiving inspiration and insight from God are well past any need for mere faith and they usually go on to lead holy lives as a priest, minister, bishop, etc., for once one goes past faith into insight, one no longer needs belief for they have seen directly.

Try going beyond 'notion' and delve into philosophy.

Nope, still the same problem.

If you are Christian, 6 Billion people don't believe what you do.

If you are Muslim, 6.5 Billion people don't believe what you do.

If you are Hindu, 7 billion people don't believe what you do.

And it is vital to you to be among the billions?

Is it because:
  • Lack of belief we are lovable
  • Lack of belief we are cared for
  • Lack of belief God is an active agent in our lives
  • Lack of belief we have a reason for being
What blocks people from believing in God? Why is it so hard to believe?

It's because there's no evidence whatsoever.

To me, the issue is not so much what people believe, but rather how their beliefs affect the way they treat other people.

And several people can believe the same exact thing and still be very different in how they treat other people.

For me, it is not so tough to believe in God just based on the concept alone.

In my experience, it is tough to believe in God because of many people who claim to speak for God.

Those people tend to keep me away from believing in God more than anyone or anything else.

Ultimately, what it comes down to for me is that if there is a God, He/She/It must have greater love than the greatest mother on Earth.

And I'm not saying all mothers are great. There are some mothers that are really "mothers."

But I would think a Supreme Being would have to be comparable to the better mothers out there rather than the worse ones.

It's vital to me to understand how the world works. If you only have a grace of a "God" depending on where you are born, that doesn't really say a lot.

At one time, Zeus had many times the followers than Yahweh had. Did that make Zeus real?

Is Yahweh only the God of the West, and Vishnu is in charge of India? Is Amaterasu in charge of Japan? Do they all get together on Saturday Night and play cards?
