Zone1 What was the point of asking for the sacrifice of Isaac by his Father? Gen. 22

Why did God ask Abraham to sacrifice his Son? And why did he say Abraham's ONLY son? Ishmael was also a son of Abraham. Isaac wasn't even the first born. So, I'd like to see responses by Jews, Muslims and Christians on this.

Exod 22:28 You shall not put off the skimming of the first yield of your vats.[1] You shall give Me the firstborn among your sons. 22:29 You shall do the same with your cattle and your flocks: seven days it shall remain with its mother; on the eighth day you shall give it to Me.

You shall give Me the firstborn among your sons. 22:29 You shall do the same with your cattle and your flocks:

never happened from the heavens ...

all beings are equal living on planet earth till through their lives the delineations occur w/ some that as jesus taught may sin no more and accomplish their place in judgement for admission to the everlasting were that their wish.

Most of the time, it’s important to keep reading as statements like this are not complete thoughts. Get to chapter 34 and this changes. Poor translation or wording as well. Redeeming comes into play and not actual killing of children. I also see the 8 days as for male children to be circumcised and not killed.

But not because the Father would allow Isaac to be killed. It was a lesson for Abraham to know the anguish Father in Heaven will go through when his only begotten Son in the flesh is crucified. He was never going to let Abraham kill Isaac. Good grief.
Abraham did not know that.

He did not know that before the act of obedience. He was told afterwards.
Exactly, so before he knew, he had to expect God to raise Issac from the dead if he did kill him. Because God promised his nation would come through Issac= impossible if Issac was dead and then God would be a liar. He knew God didn't lie, so had to expect Issac to be resurrected for Gods promise to come true.

Did he know about the resurrection? Book and verse please… why do you think his nation had to go through Isaac?

It's not just about obedience, it is about faith. Abaraham believed God's promises regarding Isaac.

I genuinely think Abraham thought God would resurrect his son had he gone through with it.

The story seems bizarre from a modern day perspective. However, in a world where child sacrifice was common, just research any ancient religions of the day, shows you that child sacrifice was the norm. So, when God told him to sacrifice Isaac, it was probably received as perfectly understandable. But when God stopped him before the act, it told the world that the God of Abraham was not like the other pagan cult gods of Abraham's day. The God of Abraham not only told him that he did not need to sacrifice his son, it later told the world that the idea of it was repugnant, which is why God told the Israelites to later expunge all of the child sacrificing cults in the land of Caanan. Unfortunately, the people disobeyed God after taking the Holy Land and began the child sacrifice of the surrounding pagan cults like to Molech. God then had to cast judgement on the Hebrew nation as well for this.

The idea that there only has to be one reason for God asking Abraham to sacrifice his son is a mistake, as there appears to be multiple reasons for him doing it. As has been said, there is the mirror sacrifice of God and his son on the cross, as well as a demonstration of Abraham's faith, which led to his obedience, and a message to the world that the one true God abhors human sacrifice.

right----but Abraham was a PROPHET--with a crystal ball
Urim and Thummim to be precise. God communicated to Abraham through this mechanism. God also did likewise with Moses and Joseph Smith. Possibly more of the Prophets that had visions.

Just reading up on the subject, it's obvious that neither Jews or Christians know what they look like and what they were used for. When the Church of Jesus Christ was in the beginning stages of being restored, so was the knowledge of purpose of the Urim and Thummim. This is the restitution of all things along with the restoration of all things of God. The Fulness of the Gospel now sheds light on how prophecy works.

the grip of religious fanaticism, funny how votto brings to lite their primary failings.

and who if not the priests would be held responsible, the same who murdered jesus not found in any of their congregations to bring them to justice - to this day. the desert religions.

He had no crystal ball. He served the true living God=YHVH(Jehovah)--And God called Abraham-friend.
The Urim and Thummim is basically a crystal ball. It's what he, Moses and Joseph Smith used to reveal the truth and prophecy-revelation.

It's a human weakness is that they can't fight their surroundings. They can easily be influenced by their surroundings, cultrually speaking. The Canaanites were practising children sacrifice to their idol gods. So if the Canaanites had the faith for the idol gods,

1. God would like to show that Abraham has a stronger faith.
2. The Jews are taught that God doesn't want children sacrifice. That's why in history children sacrifice is never part of the Jewish customs.
3. A scapegoat will be used in the place, who prophetically would be Jesus Christ.
