What liberals don't understand about "MAGA"

You'll often hear them say, "well don't you want to make America great again?"

So they are clearly conditioned to believe that THEIR way is the ONLY way. That's it. This is the only way to do it. Kind of like religion.

It's damn near impossible to communicate with thinking that is that shallow.

However, we do know the past four years is not the right way. Its time to move past the failed presidency of biden harris and into the open arms of the orange creature who is spreading his wings and welcoming everyone in.

MAGA is the opposite of the WEF/Democrats who are working on a plot to intentionally collapse America and usher in the great reset.

See, like this right here, Democrats. You're never going to convince this moron. You're never going to draw him away from the cult. No amount of shaming is going to change how this fool votes. It's not worth even trying.

But this moron's MAGA isn't the same as another person's MAGA.

The first thing the Dems would have to do is admit the important role they played in the rise of MAGA.

I've seen very little of that.
I don't necessarily disagree but MAGA has been a longtime in the making. I think you can draw a direct line from the John Birch Society to the Reagan Revolution to the Tea Party to MAGA. They are shades of the same movement.

All these movements have common elements. A loathing of the others, a sense of victimhood, conflating all those that oppose them as "communist" and "Marxist" and a great deal of conspiracy-theory-oriented thinking.

MAGA is the culmination. Nothing happens in a vacuum. MAGA has lifted the veil off its darker side of the movement. You have Donald Trump which has allowed MAGA to show its id, if you will.

Putting the genie back in the bottle will take sometime.

Freedom is my cult and I am its leader.

The vast majority of Americans believe democrats are traitors working with the WEF on a plot to intentionally collapse America and usher in the great reset.

Democrats = traitors

"MAGA" technically means "make America great again." Liberals have never really understood what "MAGA" really represents to people, why it appeals to so many, and as a result they've never been able to counteract its effect. Democrats and liberals have spent years trying to define "MAGA" on their own terms. And what they don't ever seem to realize is that they're playing right into the MAGA strategy, creating more MAGA folks and reinforcing the MAGA appeal those who already have bought in.

So let's see if I can help Democrats have a breakthrough.

MAGA is a vague idea. It's amorphous. No, it doesn't mean whatever someone wants it to mean. It means whatever someone needs it to mean. MAGA is one simple thing: the affirmation of nostalgia.

Everyone is nostalgic at times. Everyone has happy memories of a different time. Everyone looks back fondly at something. Even if you've had the best, most amazing life possible, there will still be room for nostalgia. But the thing is, not all nostalgia is about what you did. Sometimes nostalgia is what you thought. It can be something you saw. It can even be something you thought you saw, and then longed for, from a very long time ago.

Democrats have been keen to say that "MAGA" people are nostalgic for white supremacy, Jim Crow, and things like that. In other words, Democrats keep trying to define MAGA on Democrats own terms. The Democrats have largely adopted an identity politics world view, so they can only perceive MAGA as an expression of identity politics. This is why when a black person buys into MAGA, that person is accused of being an Uncle Tom. But every time Democrats do this, they can't seem to figure out that all they're doing with this rhetoric is inflaming other people's nostalgia for a time before the identity politics took hold.

MAGA is nostalgia. But not for anything specific. MAGA enables people to be nostalgic about whatever you want. Maybe you have a nostalgic memory of being a kid in the mid 80s, about 5 or 6 years old, twisting the channel knob on the TV after Sesame Street just ended, and Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous comes on. There's Donald, doing rich people stuff. You're playing with your Barbies and fantasizing about champagne wishes and caviar dreams, whatever that means as Mommy walks in with a PBJ sandwich with the crust cut off (a daily ritual). As you reminisce about those times, you happen to glance over at your own 5 year old daughter, playing with her tablet on a Saturday afternoon. And as you hand her a freshly unwrapped Uncrustable (a mere weekend ritual), it occurs to you that things are just different now. Your own childhood was somehow much more wholesome. It was a simpler time. It was more direct. It was real. You wonder how you're going to raise your own daughter to really feel something out of this life. Whatever else may have been wrong with the world, you got here, and you're a good person. And as the Democrats keep telling you, the world is a chaotic, awful place, full of terrible people.

And that is when it starts to set in. It's all a very personal experience.

Democrats need to realize that the more they tell others what MAGA means, the more they sound like idiots. Because you can't tell people what to feel when they remember their own younger life fondly. You can't demand what facts have to be inserted to other person's memories. You can't tell other people that their life was wrong all those years ago.

When people hear "make America great again" the greatness they envision is their own, personal life. And that is why anything Democrats try to associate MAGA with can be so easily ignored by adherents. That's why they can ignore so many of the things they witness that they don't like. Because MAGA is relative. Adherents understand MAGA as being relative to themselves, in their own terms, not yours.

You can't neutralize MAGA, like baking soda neutralizing acid. You have to supersede it. If Democrats can't do that, then they'll be losing to MAGA for decades yet to come.
Whoever wrote that got it right! There are probably enough pissed off Americans ready to vote to make Trump the king.
Those who are pissed off are the working class, and the other Trump supporters are very happy with keeping the American way of denying the working class a piece of the pie.

And so after 4 years of Trump, will the working class rise up against the system? No, they never have. At best they've made a halfassed attempt to pretend in Jan., 22.

-----------------------------------------------------------

This bullshit could go on indefinitely if it wasn't for Russia, China, and the Brics encouraging Americans with more of the same.

I trace the worst of it to the day Limbaugh went public. That was the beginning of the alternate universe, to me.

As for the Dems, their weaponization of PC and Identity Politics created a resentment that they saw but simply dismissed and mocked. It's one thing to advocate for the rights of certain people, but it's another thing entirely to ruin people's careers, destroy their businesses, intimidate them into silence, shout them down, attack them publicly, deplatform them on college campuses (of all goddamn places) and expose their young children to things they should not. That's when the tide turned.

I've talked about that since I've been on this board. I saw the resentment growing (and agreed with their reasoning), but I had no idea it was this intense.

That's the role the Dems played in the rise of Trumpism. This whole disaster is the pushback, and it's obviously massive.

So you think that you're Trump, and that I hate you.

Okay. Well, that's weird, but not terribly surprising, considering.
I stated a fact. You are a closed minded Trump hater. And you have a closed minded belief in the stereotype of MAGA that the Democrats and their Media push 24/7.

That's not exactly a MAGA thing. Try making principled arguments against the welfare state ("why do you hate the poor?") or our approach to civil rights ("why do you support racism?") with a Democrat.
When the Dems react by literally trying to destroy our institutions behind the lies of a demented con man -- and no, they are not doing that -- I'll even that out.

BS.

We reject the BS the left is pushing on America.

We reject their DEI agenda.

We reject their OPEN BORDERS

We reject their pushing perverted crap in Schools.

TEA...We reject their tax us to death policies.

We reject handing out money to others when we have to write IOUs to do so.

We reject regulations that kill jobs.

WE REJECT THE LEFT

Its een Progs way for the most part at least 60 years. Some Republicans helped it along or slowed it down somewhat. Your arrow always moves left, and it does not stall. Progs are pissed because they smell the total capitulation of a stupid population. They are creating group versus group powder kegs all over the nation and in Canada with their sell outs. Many Prog cities are festering boils ready to erupt at any reduction of resources sent to them.

thoughtful piece, stormy, but you may be overthinkung this a bit.

most of these guys are members of smaller cults - megachurches or moonies, de facro militias or ayn rand fan clubs are all authoritarian, hierarchal, and patriarchal.

trump found some way to coopt the cult leaders,(i8 suspect a luttle bribery a little kompronat, and maybe a dash of extortion) each with their own agenda and ideas of what it means to be great.

haven't seen you for a while. nice to see you back

None of that is true.
I understand how important it is for the echo chamber Cult that holds your brain hostage to have you believe that. But -

Well thought out, good read.
For the sake of simplification I’d add…We are a nation framed around and pillared by “nostalgia”.
We are a nation of people guided by a 2,700 year old ‘story’ / the Bible and a 238 year old document, the Constitution.
Libs detest such a fact, they hate our history, heritage, culture and the means to our founding.
Conservatives don’t want to ‘live in the past’, they simply want America to stay on the same trajectory it’s always been on, guided by Christianity, by the same moral order / values and principles, by patriotism, by nationalism….all of which is kryptonite to the left.
You can't neutralize MAGA, like baking soda neutralizing acid. You have to supersede it.
Democrats have been positioning to “supersede” for decades…They have flooded our nation with desperate thirdworlders who can’t tell you what words title our Preamble, they can’t tell you who the 16th President was, can’t sing along when our national anthem is played, can’t give two shits about our history or heritage but they have the same voting rights that I have.
Democrats OWN America’s over-populated shitholes only because they have flooded our nation with Democrat voters….but but but…THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!!!

LOL and, praytell, how do you communicate with with this type of thinking from your cult?

"One other thing that you'll see next week, Kaitlan, is Trump actually reenacting the Madison Square Garden rally in 1939. I write about this in my book," Clinton told CNN's Kaitlan Collins on Thursday night. "President Franklin Roosevelt was appalled that neo-Nazis, fascists in America were lining up to essentially pledge their support for the kind of government that they were seeing in Germany. So I don't think we can ignore
