So I failed my DOT eye test and had to go see an ophthalmologist to go back to work. Had every test in his arsenal of equipment, must have been at least half dozen or more. When all was said and done he looked at me and said you don't need glasses. Take my employer packet back and hand it in and they sit there looking puzzled and I said its the difference between a hack agenda and a professional. Here stand in a darkened room and see if you can read the chart.

I see an ophthalmologist every three months or so to treat a chronic condition in my right eye. Every time they give an eye exam and I barely pass the minimal eye requirements to get a driver's license. So a couple of years ago I went to an optometrist to get new glasses and both eyes tested 20/25--far FAR better than the ophthalmologist had tested? Why? The guy was extra good and took time to find out what I was actually seeing rather than just do a cursory test reading the chart.

Who does the eye test does make a huge difference in many cases.

Anyhow, happy you had a good result.

.

I had a rotten experience getting my eye test done when I was going for a new license when I moved to a new state.. The doctor at Costco gave me corrective lenses which made my vision blurry. So I went to Pearl Vision and explained to the doctor that all I needed was to know if my vision was okay for driving -- she chatted like a speed freak and made an appointment to address the fact that my right eye is getting a cataract, but didn't say shit about my vision for driving.

So I went to a private practice, where the doctor said I had the beginning of a problem in my right eye, but nothing that she thought would keep me from driving safely.

NUTS!

Now I need to renew my license so I'm going back to the same doctor who treated me like a normal person. I expect that I may need the cataract surgery in the right eye. Bummer. I have a damaged nerve in the right side of my face and I'm scared to death of having anyone touch my face on that side. Went to a chiropractor and he knew better than to touch that side of my face, but he did anyway, and my reflex response was to smack his hand away.

ARGH!!!! Getting old!

Some of you know one of my hobbies is guns. Years ago I picked up a Baby Rock, miniature 1911 in .380. Got a great deal on it as it was used and had a black and hot pink "skin" on the slide. At the time I removed the skin, cleaned it up (a job from hell at the time) and painted it silver.

Well the paint never took properly so the other day I took it out of storage and stripped off the paint. I then used Perma Blue cold bluing solution and after 13 coats on the slide and maybe 10 coats on the frame it looks a whole lot better.
Cold bluing isn't the best way but with proper prep work and patience it came out better than expected.

Yup, that looks sooooo much better.

Doesn't look 114 years old. But really interesting.

A 1911 is a .45 caliber semi-auto pistol developed by John Browning in 1911, Colt made the originals. Not only is the basic design still being made there have been many adaptations by different manufacturers over the decades. I have a few 1911s in different configurations, the Baby Rock made by Rock Island Armory in the Philippines. It was introduced into the market in 2015, the grips are after market G10 grips. G10 grips are multiple layers of fiberglass sheets and epoxy resin compressed under heat and pressure then machined into their final forms.

You are amazing that you know and understand all that stuff. For me I just appreciate beautiful and interesting things. And that includes weapons.

A reminder to our Coffee Shoppers, tomorrow morning just before dawn for most of us, heaven will have it's own smiley face emoji. Low in the eastern sky two eyes (Venue and Saturn) will be visible over a smiling crescent moon. Maybe not the most sensational heavenly event, but extremely rare so some will want to see it. :)

Not sure if it will be visible here in Albuquerque as the Sandia may block the view. In all honestly I doubt I'll be up before dawn to look for it. But I might.
