Trump reeks of desperation--he just does not understand that while he is ginning up the core....he is attracting zero new voters...not the road to victory..IMO.

I mostly agree with you, but Trump and his cultists are basing their thinking on two factors.

1) The Polls were slightly wrong in 2016
2) His base is more enthusiastic than Biden's.

Two problems with that:

Trump can’t afford any defections – which seems to be the case given the polling in many states Trump won.

Trump must run on his dismal record – Trump’s no longer the ‘outsider.’
