Trump and Vance actively supporting Viktor Orban as President of Hungary should concern us all.
His politics are closer to the Russia government than the USA government.

1. Reshaping Hungary’s political system

Rewrote the constitution (2011) and passed many new laws that strengthened executive power.
Reduced checks and balances by weakening courts and filling key positions with loyalists.
Critics say this has led to a system sometimes described as “illiberal democracy.”

2. Control over media and institutiIntroduced media laws and enabled allies to acquire major outlets, resulting in a largely pro-government media landscape.

  • Increased government influence over universities and research institutions, including forcing some foreign institutions to leave or restructure.

Election system changes

Redrew electoral districts and modified election rules in ways critics say favor his party (Fidesz).
Built long-term structural advantages that make it harder for opposition parties to win.

Anti-immigration policies

One of his most defining positions:
Built border fences during the 2015 migrant crisis
Enforced strict asylum rules
  • Framed immigration as a threat to national identity and security.

Economic policies (“Orbanomics”)

Used unconventional taxes (e.g., on banks and foreign companies)
Increased state involvement in key sectors.
Critics argue he created crony capitalism, benefiting business allies.

Foreign policy moves

Maintains close ties with Russia and has often resisted EU pressure (e.g., on sanctions or Ukraine support).
At times has taken positions that complicate relations with the EU and NATO.
Recent reporting highlights mixed or contradictory diplomatic behavior (e.g., outreach to different geopolitical actors).

Use of state power and emergency measures

Very true. The similarities between the two would be much more obvious if Trump were not so flamboyant, unstable and juvenile.

Orban's steady, calm and more dignified approach make him more dangerous, flying more under the radar. Orban would be a perfect role model for Vance to follow.

Authoritarians come in all stripes, and they admire each other. The world has seen THAT before, too. In Europe.

Orban should be very wary who he associates with. Some folks can be your best buddy one day then bomb the living hell out of you the next. As I recall, a portion of Turkey appears to be part of "the Greater Israel" project.

If Orban is smart, he's building tons of missiles and drones and underground facilities to build and store them. I believe Turkey is a Muslim nation so you never know when the "chosen" will start sending bombs in your direction.

The keynote speaker this year was once again Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, who received exclusive video support from Donald Trump.

Trump, Orban, Netanyahu, Putin, they all want fascist societies where they maintain control and silence dissent.

Putin is, to my knowledge, the only one capable of doing this at the moment, but these 4 all are using the same playbook.

There are failings by their political opposition that allows them to appear to many as the best choice to head the government, specifically Orban and Trump, chiefly immigration, which has allowed millions of refugees into both Europe and the United States with little oversight.

Most of us are concerned. Some of us rather like the idea of an autocracy, even if they don't realize it. They just simple mindedly support everything trump wants to do. Not having put two and two together yet.

The most reliable allies we have in the EU are the former Soviet Block countries.
