Johnson arrived as a slave and then became a slave owner. He would have been the first or likely the first black slave/plantation owner in the colonies. Blacks also owned white slaves/indentured servants in the colonies.

That isn't true.. The first slaves arrived in New Amsterdam from the sugar plantations in Brazil in 1654.
Slaves existed for THOUSANDS of years before that.

Everyone knows that. What's your point?
The point is, he said "First American Slave owner was black", then you mentioned New Amsterdam, but they werent American, so i had to assume you were just speaking about slavery in general. In 1865, New Amsterdam was controlled by England, not Americans.

New Amsterdam was Dutch.. so were the Sugar Plantations in Brazil.. When the British won the Jewish sugar planters took their slaves to New Amsterdam.. although some dispersed throughout the Carribbean.

Yes, they were not Americans, therefore they dont count as the "first American slave holder".

New Amsterdam wasn't "American" in the early 1600s. It was Dutch.

It was indeed a Dutch colony. Technically nothing was "American" until 1789.

New York Manhattan was New Amsterdam first. Then the Brits took over.

I know that. Thats why you claiming they were the first American slave holders was incorrect. I mean if we are just talking about the first slave holders in America, then it was the indians.

Even before then......

There were slaves in what is now Florida as far back as the 1500's -- thanks to the Spanish....

The first blacks were brought to Jamestown in 1619. The Pilgrims did not yet exist, nor did the Dutch in what is now New York. Virginia and Jamestown is where America was founded. And yes, a prosperous black man was one of the first slave owners in America.
