The First American Slave Owner Was Black

Who would have thought that The First American Slave Owner Was Black?

https://u nrealfacts.com/the-first-american-slave-owner-was-black/

That isn't true.. The first slaves arrived in New Amsterdam from the sugar plantations in Brazil in 1654.

The first blacks were brought to Jamestown in 1619. The Pilgrims did not yet exist, nor did the Dutch in what is now New York. Virginia and Jamestown is where America was founded. And yes, a prosperous black man was one of the first slave owners in America.
African slaves were here since the 1500's

Where? Did you read my post? Brazil, is not America. Islands in the Caribbean are not America. Virginia is America. Pay fucking attention. :(

23 Jewish families from the sugar plantations in Brazil arrived in New Amsterdam with their slaves in 1654.

There was quite a stink. Peter Styvesant was reluctant to admit them and at one point sold their belongings for debts.

Is there some reason why you are evading posting who the first American slave holder was?
"Lack of integrity" is the answer to your question.

You mean after 1776?

These people brought their slaves with them when they settled in New Amsterdam which was a Dutch enterprise at the time.

You can evade posting who the first American slave holder was like a cat evades being shoved into a toilet, but throwing this evasion fit only draws more attention and merit to the article that this thread is about.

When did we become America? That actually does matter.

There were free blacks who owned property and some were slave holders.. Some were also buying their wives and children out of slavery..

Your political agenda is obvious.. but not terribly smart.

Slaves existed for THOUSANDS of years before that.

Everyone knows that. What's your point?
The point is, he said "First American Slave owner was black", then you mentioned New Amsterdam, but they werent American, so i had to assume you were just speaking about slavery in general. In 1865, New Amsterdam was controlled by England, not Americans.

New Amsterdam was Dutch.. so were the Sugar Plantations in Brazil.. When the British won the Jewish sugar planters took their slaves to New Amsterdam.. although some dispersed throughout the Carribbean.
Yes, they were not Americans, therefore they dont count as the "first American slave holder".

New Amsterdam wasn't "American" in the early 1600s. It was Dutch.
It was indeed a Dutch colony. Technically nothing was "American" until 1789.
A Dutch colony where? BTW, Jamestown had them first....John Rolfe.
New York Manhattan was New Amsterdam first. Then the Brits took over.
But the Brits were in Jamestown before the Dutch got to New Amsterdam....need to learn your American history.

Even before then......

There were slaves in what is now Florida as far back as the 1500's -- thanks to the Spanish....
I don't think the Spanish were into chattel slavery as much, but your point is well taken.

Wrong! This is not the first American slave owner.

Those were British or English settlers, it wasn't a British Government financed operation. A private company London Virginia Company financed the operation. Later on British government became defacto colonial ruler. You didn't even know that New York was New Amsterdam first, that is sad.

John Rolfe was black?
Who was the first American slave owner?
John Rolfe
What year did he become the first American slave owner, and what year did the colonial assembly grant free whites, blacks and Indians permission to own black slaves?

You are correct. Jamestown started off as a private joint stock company. But by 1624 the British Crown took it over as a Royal Colony. Technically, the Pilgrims landed in Virginia as Britain claimed most of the East Coast.

The first blacks in America had a higher legal status than indentured whites. To be an indentured white person was basically a death sentence. 90% died before their indentured was up.

Chattel slavery slowly evolved, and was not fully instituted legally until the mid to late 1650's. This happened primarily due to labor shortages as whites in England soon learned the Colonies were a death trap and refused to go.

Indentured servitude was outlawed in the USA in 1924.

Pay attention to the folks twisting themselves into pretzels to try to minimize slavery....

These are the same who claimed wearing a mask to go in Walmart was the same as slavery...

Blacks also owned white slaves/indentured servants in the colonies.
Not true.

All white serfs in the World were owned by white nobles. I have studied the History of Serfdom. Russian and East European serfs had the same legal standing as slaves, but they were generally treated much better. In Russia serfdom was abolished in 1861.

Russian and East European nobles lost almost all their property in Socialist revolutions -- 1917 in Russia and late 1940s in East Europe.

Incorrect.

He's an idiot. :) I spent three years researching Jamestown and wrote a novel based on the research. It is excellent by the way.....The River of Pearl and Gold: A Story of Jamestown. It is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and fine booksellers everywhere. :D

Chattel slavery did not come into legal existence in America until the mid 1650's. Virtually all the legal documents still exist, including the black man who was one of the first true slave owners.

Blacks owned slaves up through the Civil War. Call it an inconvenient truth. Dims would like to white wash history. Too bad, the documents and facts are there.
Bullshit. Soon we'll be told that blacks created Jim Crow.
