The First American Slave Owner Was Black

Who would have thought that The First American Slave Owner Was Black?

https://u nrealfacts.com/the-first-american-slave-owner-was-black/

That isn't true.. The first slaves arrived in New Amsterdam from the sugar plantations in Brazil in 1654.

The first blacks were brought to Jamestown in 1619. The Pilgrims did not yet exist, nor did the Dutch in what is now New York. Virginia and Jamestown is where America was founded. And yes, a prosperous black man was one of the first slave owners in America.
African slaves were here since the 1500's

Also, a "prosperous black man" was not one of the first slave owners...I know it makes some folks feel better to believe this...but a simple look at history says otherwise...

Now do these reactionary right wingers want to talk about "AMERICA'S PAST" or do they just want to make up shit about it instead?

"Anthony Johnson was, himself, enslaved by an English settler upon being brought to North America. For a period of time in the 17th century, some of the enslaved, like Johnson, were able to gain their freedom, own land, and have servants.

By the end of the 17th century, however, colonies began to make legal distinctions based on racial categories; the legal status of black people deteriorated while the rights of white European Americans increased. Johnson’s descendants, who were classified as black, were stripped of the property they inherited from him."

And on top of that......this insistence on claiming "but they had slaves too" is goofy....you can't on one hand claim to be so superior while at the same time claiming your resistance to slavery was so inferior that you were powerless to not adopt it and base your whole system on it...for 200 plus years.....

You are an idiot. The article is correct. One of the first slave owners in America was a black man. The Court records exist. I understand you don't like that fact. Too bad. :(

Florida was Spanish. America was founded as a British Colony. Is everyone completely ignorant of basic American History? Jesus people are stupid. :(

No, he wasn't one of the first slave owners...do you understand that?

He was brought here as a slave....so that would make his owner one of the first slave owners you moron....

What he did do was become one of the first people to go to court to argue for indentured servitude into perpetuity.....

Do you know why he had to go to court for that but the man who owned him didn't??

There is a reason you haven't been able to refute a single thing I have said with historical facts....because you can't

You can move the goal posts all you wish.....

There were slaves in the Americas since the 1500's.....

But I understand why you cucks want to pretend "Florida" was not part of America when your bullshit get debunked

Good lord....and then in 1664, the ENGLISH seized New Netherland which including your colony from the DUTCH.......

and fyi, the indians had slaves long before the 1500s.

Oh god biff, you have no damn clue. Anthony Johnson was captured or sold by his family/tribe to the Spaniards who were taking his his dumb selfish evil ass to a different country, when they ran out of supplies and had no money to buy any. So they traded dumbass Anthony for basic supplies so they could continue on their trip. Sounds like they didn't like him either. Sounds like a lot people didn't like him throughout his life.

He was not made or kept a slave here. He was made an indentured servant and made to work several years to pay off the debt that was incurred in buying his dumbass from the Catholic slavers.

As was the custom then for indentured servants---Johnson served his years and was given money/land and provisions to start his new life here in america as a completely free man where workers were in high high demand. Johnson bought the contracts for indentured servants--one of which was black and an AFRICAN.

When Johnson came here.....he apparently had been educated by missionaires back in Africa as he already had been converted to christianity, and could read and write and speak English. This is extremely important because early america justified slavery because they could convert the heathens to chrisitianity. Slavery then was not based on COLOR but RELIGION then. Apparently, our religious early years were against slavery ----but came around to it as it was sold as a way to save souls.

The 3 white indentured CHRISTIAN servants were turned loose and would have received lands/provisions from Anthony as was the custom back then when indentures were freed---------but Anthony refused to release the black man and even after the black man left for a neighbors farm. Evil anthony went to court to get his "slave" back...... they never talk about how Anthony was able to get a court order to get his slave-----------BUT after researching this story for years-----there is one thing that would answer this question for this FIRST SLAVE in the English colonies----That Anthony claimed that the black man never converted to christianity.

Anthony became quit financially well off here btw.

He's an idiot. :) I spent three years researching Jamestown and wrote a novel based on the research. It is excellent by the way.....The River of Pearl and Gold: A Story of Jamestown. It is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and fine booksellers everywhere. :D

Chattel slavery did not come into legal existence in America until the mid 1650's. Virtually all the legal documents still exist, including the black man who was one of the first true slave owners.

Blacks owned slaves up through the Civil War. Call it an inconvenient truth. Dims would like to white wash history. Too bad, the documents and facts are there.

Show me where in the Confederate Articles of Secession where they mentioned black men owning slaves??

Show me the "black slave owner" exclusion in this article of secession??

If it was such a common thing for black folks to own slaves...did this extend to them owning white slaves too??

"She was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery-- the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits-- a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time."

I'll wait while yo fragile minded ass keeps trying to put on the cape for slavery....

Who was the first American slave owner, and what race was he?

The first in Dutch New Amsterdam were Jewish sugar planters from Recif, Brazil.

Jews aren't a race.

This is like people claiming the first holocaust gas chambers were created by aborigines in Australia as if that excuses what Germans did....

Talking about who had slaves first is just as idiotic...
Africa had slaves before anyone. The first American slave holder was black too. In 2021, Africa is enslaving more people than ever before in history. Black people are the most prolific slave holders the world has ever seen.

23 Jewish families from the sugar plantations in Brazil arrived in New Amsterdam with their slaves in 1654.

There was quite a stink. Peter Styvesant was reluctant to admit them and at one point sold their belongings for debts.

Is there some reason why you are evading posting who the first American slave holder was?
